This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is using the WP Vivid Staging Plugin for their staging site, which lacks WPML translations and functions. The client has concerns about the plugin's ability to handle WPML settings when moving changes back to the live site.
Solution:
We recommend checking if the WP Vivid plugin exports the database to the staging site, as WPML settings are stored there. It's advisable to confirm this with the WP Vivid support team. If the client continues to face issues, we suggest using the Duplicator plugin, which is known to handle such migrations effectively. For more plugin options, visit WPML's recommended plugins.

If this solution does not resolve the issue or seems outdated, please check related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verify the version of the permanent fix, and ensure that the latest versions of themes and plugins are installed. If problems persist, we highly recommend opening a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Background of the issue:
I am using the WP Vivid Staging Plugin for my site hidden link. I was advised by an agent to remove the license key from my staging site and add a new key without affecting the live site. I did this successfully, and the live site was unaffected.

Symptoms:
The staging site has none of the translations or any of the functions of WPML activated and is going to the config screen.

Questions:
How can I activate the translations and functions of WPML on my staging site?

Hi there, and thank you for reaching out.

I have never used this plugin before, to be honest.

Does WPvivid export the database to the staging site? That is where the WPML settings are stored.

Maybe it would be best to check this with their support team first?

I am unsure how the staging site is created by their plugin, but I think it should practically duplicate the current site (all the current files and database) in a different testing environment.

Please let me know if you can find any news from their support team.

Thanks for the follow up.... I have gone back and forth with the plug in develpoers - they have made some changes to their plug in, but I am still not confident that it will do what I need to to do.

When the staging site is built WPML asks to be configured - none of the translations appear.... registering the staging site doesn't fix things.

They made changes so that the licence is applied (I think) - but when I asked them about pushing changes back from staging to live, they didn't seem sure about what would happen - most likely was that the registration and config would have to be done again - meaning the translations would be gone. I asked for a refund - they need to figure out what is going to happen.

Which staging plug in would you recommend?

Hi there and thank you for the update.

I am sorry to hear about that.

I usually use Duplicator to copy a site from production to a staging environment and I also use it when I need to move a site from staging to live.

Here are some of the plugins that we recommend for these type of actions:

I hope that you will find this information helpful.
