I am trying to: Update some pages (Homepage) on English (default Language) and after i click update it automatically updates for the other languages, breaks all my links, changing some titles, filter and form to English instead of French.

Link to a page where the issue can be seen: any page but mostly on Homepage and Header
hidden link

I expected to see: I want to disable or turn off sync for the automatic translation everytime i edit something, i only want to do manual translation.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting the support.

Meanwhile this ticket is attended by one of my colleagues, I'll recommend changing translation mode from WPML -> Settings to "Translate what you choose" to enable manual translations.

See https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/#translation-mode-options for more details.

Regards.

Hi there.

I also wanted to add some extra information here.

In case the pages were duplicated from one language to another, make sure that you go to the secondary language backend (while in the backend site area, from the top bar select the flag for the secondary language) > then you go to Pages > and then, you hover over your mouse over the page you want to edit and select "Edit" > then select that you agree to manually edit it (in case a window shows up) > and make sure that you don't have the "Translate independently" option showing up on the right sidebar.

Because, if it shows up, it means that you have to click it to disconnect the syncing between the default language and the duplicated version. You would need to do this manually for all the pages that were duplicated.

I hope that you will find this information helpful. 🙂

Thanks for your quick respond @Waqas Bin Hasan but as you can see in the image i had the setting already to manual and i even set it to review first. My problem is when i update a page (Home page) sometimes it automatically updates the french version or Chinese version and sets some content back to english ( buttons, filters, forms )

Thanks @Mihai Apetrei but i couldn't find the option on the page backend editor.

Hi and thank you for the credentials.

I can confirm that I was able to log in successfully.

Is this a staging site that we are available to test and play with? I will try to recreate the issue so that's why I'm asking.

Please let me know.

Hello,

No unfortunately it is not. As I will be taking this website into production tomorrow morning, perhaps it would be better to use a staging environment after all.

I will send you new credentials for the staging environment, ok?

Thanks!

Hi there.

I am back.

Also, sorry for the delayed response. It was also a weekend which delayed things a bit more as most of the support team is not working on weekends.

So things look fine in the backend, I am not able to see something that is configured in a wrong way and also, as you confirmed, the "Translate independently" option is not showing up either which means these pages were not duplicates or the button was already clicked so we don't have to think about that button anymore.

Let's use the homepage as an example for the next steps.

1. Can you please share some exact examples of things that change in the other translated versions of the homepage when you are updating it in English? Are there any specific areas that you can share?

2. Can you please let me know if you had the chance to test if this issue is still happening even when only the WPML plugins are active and you are using a default WordPress theme?

If you didn't have a chance to do that yet, can you please try the following steps so that we can test for a compatibility-related issue:

- create a full website backup

- disable all plugins except WPML and its add-ons

- check if the issue is happening again

- if it's not, reactivate your plugins one by one, checking every time if the issue shows up again so that you can understand which plugin is causing that issue

If the issue happens even with the non-WPML plugins disabled:
- leave all the non-WPML plugins deactivated

- switch to a default theme like TwentySeventeen

- try to recreate the issue now

Please test this only in a staging environment like the one you have set up.

Please let me know how that goes and if following any of these steps solved your issue or brought any change.

I will be waiting for your response.
