This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are trying to translate a page using WPML's Advanced Translation Editor (ATE) and encountering an issue where the ATE displays media from a previous version of the page, causing an unexpectedly high word count.
Solution:
We recommend checking your media library. Please switch to the list view in your media library, search for the media in question, and check the "Attached to" column. If the media is still attached to the page or post, you should unattach it. This action typically resolves the issue.

If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we encourage you to open a new support ticket. We also highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate a page using PTC. The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link. I expected the translator to only translate content, media, meta, etc., in the current version of the page.

Symptoms:
The ATE is showing a bunch of media from a previous version of the page, including some rather long alt tags, which I'm guessing is why the word count for the translation seems too high.

Questions:
Why is the ATE showing media from a previous version of the page?
How can I ensure that only the current version of the page is translated?

Hello,

Please go to your media library and switch to list view. Search the media in question and take a look at the column "Attached to".

It might be that this media is still attached to the page or post, which is why you should "Unattach" it.

This usually should solve the issue.

Best regards
Andreas

Ahhh, list view! I was looking for that detach option -- list view was the key -- thank you!
