This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are using the WPML plugin to translate media on your site and need to delete some media files from the server but are unsure where to find them.
Solution:
1. All media files uploaded via the WPML media translation tool are stored in the same directory as the original uploads, which is typically

/wp-content/uploads/

.
2. To delete these files cleanly, first remove the attachment through the WordPress Media Library. This step ensures that the attachment entry is also removed from WordPress.
3. If the file still remains on the server after deletion from the Media Library, you may then manually remove the file via FTP from the

/wp-content/uploads/

directory.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I am using the WPML plugin on my site hidden link to translate media. I have a PDF in Italian and I'm using the media translation feature to upload PDFs in other languages to be displayed on the frontend.

Symptoms:
I need to delete some media files from the server but I am unsure where to find them.

Questions:
Where can I see the media used to translate a media in the original language?
Where can I find the media files on the server to delete them?

Hello,

By default, WordPress stores uploads in /wp-content/uploads/ WPML doesn’t store translations in a separate place.

Deleting via FTP won’t remove the attachment entry in WordPress — you’ll still see a “missing file” placeholder in the Media Library.

If you want it clean, first delete the attachment in the Media library, then optionally remove the file manually if it remains on the server.

Hello,

as said above all the images uploaded are located in same folder, /wp-content/uploads/.

Let me know if any other question or doubts.

Regards,
Drazen
