Hi there.

As far as I know, the en-US is the default English language WordPress comes with.

In this situation, I recommend creating a full website backup and then creating a custom language for the UK version.

Please take a look over the recommendations my colleague offered in this existing ticket:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/how-to-have-2-english-language-variations-en_us-and-en_gb/

Then, you can always change the default language to the new custom one you are creating if that's what you want.

I hope that you will find this information helpful.

My plan is to take backup

And change the wordpress default to UK English en_gb as the site is written in UK English

I will then add a new lang for American English and use a different locale for the en_us example en_usa

Then I can duplicate my existing pages to the new American locale

Does that sound good?

Hi there, and welcome back.

Thank you for the update.

If that's what you want to do, then please take a look at my colleague's recommendation from this existing ticket:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/cant-add-en_us-as-custom-lang/#post-15546409

That should do what you want.

I hope that you will find this information helpful.

Hi there.

There are no implications. You can update the URL slug if you need it for the translation. Since it is a translation, it will only modify the translation URL, and that's all. The translation remains published; change the slug to what you need and save it.
