Hi there. As far as I know, the en-US is the default English language WordPress comes with. In this situation, I recommend creating a full website backup and then creating a custom language for the UK version. Please take a look over the recommendations my colleague offered in this existing ticket: Then, you can always change the default language to the new custom one you are creating if that's what you want. My plan is to take backup And change the wordpress default to UK English en_gb as the site is written in UK English I will then add a new lang for American English and use a different locale for the en_us example en_usa Then I can duplicate my existing pages to the new American locale Does that sound good? |

first hurdle can not change wp lang as WPML is active,,, can i deactivate and then change ? Please see attached as I can not see any other way yo change local default to English UK Q can i deactivate WPML and then change the WP default lang? |

okay got it working, thanks. For a few translations, I sometimes change the translated slug url to improve it what are the implications if a then need to update the translation ? |

Hi there. There are no implications. You can update the URL slug if you need it for the translation. Since it is a translation, it will only modify the translation URL, and that's all. The translation remains published; change the slug to what you need and save it. |
