Background of the issue:
I have set an ACF field to be equal on every language on my site hidden link. A new banner appeared on the backend topbar showing an animated blue gear icon and the percentage of the completed synchronization.

Symptoms:
The synchronization process is taking a long time, and after changing the ACF setting yesterday, the sync is only at 27%.

Questions:
Why is the synchronization process taking so long?
What can I do to speed up the synchronization process?

Hi,

It looks like the synchronization process may have gotten stuck. In some cases, the actual sync completes correctly, but the progress notice (the animated gear and percentage) remains visible due to a background task not clearing properly.

To fix this, please follow these steps:

1. Log in to your database
2. Locate the table: icl_background_tasks
3. Delete all entries from this table

This should remove the stuck notice and allow WPML to reset the sync state.

Also, could you please check if you notice any inconsistencies in your custom fields—especially the one you set to be equal across all languages? If everything looks correct and the field is syncing as expected, then clearing out the table should be sufficient.

Let us know what you find, and we’re happy to help further if needed.
