I’m experiencing a critical issue involving WPML and Divi after a recent update.
### Problem:
* With WPML (Multilingual CMS) active → saving fails ("Saving failed") and the media library appears almost empty
* With WPML deactivated → everything works perfectly again
### Additional observations:
* The issue also occurs when selecting background images in the Divi Builder
* Media files exist on the server and are used on the site, but are not properly shown in the media library when WPML is active
* WPML Troubleshooting actions (fix language information, remove ghost entries, etc.) did not resolve the issue
* PHP limits are sufficient (memory, max_input_vars, etc.)
### Debug.log excerpts:
PHP Notice: Function WP_Scripts::add was called incorrectly. The script with the handle "rank-math-editor" was enqueued with dependencies that are not registered: et-dynamic-asset-helpers.
PHP Notice: Function _load_textdomain_just_in_time was called incorrectly. Translation loading for the "rank-math-pro" domain was triggered too early.
### Environment:
* Latest WordPress version
* Latest WPML components
* Latest Divi version
* Hosting: All-Inkl
### Conclusion:
Since the issue disappears completely when WPML is deactivated, it seems WPML is affecting:
* media queries (attachments)
* or REST/AJAX responses used by Divi Builder
Could this be related to:
* corrupted or inconsistent entries in `wp_icl_translations`?
* media attachment language assignment?
* known compatibility issues with the latest Divi version?
Do you recommend:
* rebuilding WPML translation tables?
* reassigning media language?
* or a specific fix for this scenario?
Welcome to WPML support. The chat was disconnected. I created this ticket to follow up on the issue.
Do you use Divi 5 or 4?
What happens if you only use WPML without any other plugins?
d- IMPORTANT STEP! Create a backup of your website. Or better approach will be to test this on a copy/staging version of the website to avoid any disruption of a live website.
- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > Plugins" and deactivate all plugins except:
. WPML Multilingual CMS
. WPML String translation
- Check if you can still recreate the issue.
- If not, re-activate your plugins one by one and check the issue each time to find out the plugin that causes the problem.
Also. I'd appreciate it if you could follow the steps below:
- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > WPML > Settings > Media Translation".
- Make sure that all the enabled checkboxes there are checked.
- Click the "Start" button.
- Wait for the process to finish.
In finding out the issue I tried to deactivate all plugins and did it like you said.
It remained with the WPML CMS Plugin.
For Media Translation it is on.
It is Divi 5.
The issue itself with the almost empty mediathek and not able to save the page isn´t live now.
But it come from time to time and I could only solve it with restoring a backup.
But there is a huge list of errors in the console.
When I click on the file related to the error it seems to be one related to WPML.
These errors are only when logged in and using the visual builder.
Thank you, Now that this is happening time to time I'd appreciate it if you could copy your website to a staging website and replicate the issue there and then do not touch anything and get back to us with the login information so we can test,
Also give us the steps on what to do to see the empty error.
You can send the next reply to private to give us the login information for the staging website.
