Background of the issue:
I was trying to work with WPML, but the WPML Dashboard and more WPML menus do not open. The issue can be seen at this link: hidden link.

Symptoms:
I am experiencing an HTTP ERROR 500 when trying to access the WPML Dashboard and other WPML menus. Instead of WPML working, I got WPML error no 15+, and it is slowing my work down a lot.

Questions:
Why am I getting an HTTP ERROR 500 when accessing the WPML Dashboard?
Why does WPML just not work?

Hi,

Welcome to WPML support. Would you please contact the hosting service provider and ask them to share with you the error log to know what the server is error behind the error 500?
With the number of plugin sthat you use I guess it might be a server resources shortage.

You can tets that by only having WPML related plugins enabled:

- IMPORTANT STEP! Create a backup of your website. Or better approach will be to test this on a copy/staging version of the website to avoid any disruption of a live website.
- Switch to the default theme such as "TwentyTwenty" by going to "WordPress Dashboard > Appearance > themes".
- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > Plugins" and deactivate all plugins except:
. WPML Multilingual CMS
. WPML String translation
. WooCommerce
. WooCommerce Multilingual
- Check if you can still recreate the issue.
- If not, re-activate your plugins one by one and check the issue each time to find out the plugin that causes the problem.

Thanks.

Hi.

Ok, I har tried disabling most pluging. Did not help.

I can not get support before to morrow at 9 at my hoster, so I will ask them if they have errors.

Regards
Michael

Hi again.

Now it is monday and I could contact my hoster, simply.com, and he looked it over and says that they have no errors and that my .htaccess and other config's are fine.

He also checked their error logs, and there is no errors.

I also have their top product with the most CPU, memory and diskspace, and nothing is max'ed out.

So hosting says, no problems by them.

Also: I have no problems with anything else in WordPress. All other plugins runs fine. Also some WPML sub-plugins runs, it is Dashboard and String that gives ERROR 500.

After the answer from hosting I went to your download page and got alle plugins and reinstalled them here with overwrite. All plugins was of the same version, no newer plugins avaliable.

Tested again. Same ERROR 500.

Help is needed urgently. This is a working web shop, and WPML is using 50% of my time with giving errors, and that has to stop now. No other plugins are wasting my time.

Looging forward to have this fixed within minutes. Thank you!

Regards
Michael

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your clarification.

I'd appreciate it if you could give me the URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard after you make sure that you have a backup of your website.
It is absolutely important that you give us a guarantee that you have a backup so if something happens you will have a point of restore.

Make sure you set the next reply as private.

Also if needed we will need your permission to copy your website on our server for further investigation if there is not an option for the staging version.

Thanks.

Hi Michael,

We will do our best to see what the issue with the translation management menu is.

I set the previous reply as private as you shared login information in a public post.

I checked the site and found this error:

There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions. If you continue to have problem

This shows that there is a PHP error under the hood.

I will need to have FTP access to the website files, so I can add proper code to wp-config.php file.

May I ask you to set the next reply as private and provide FTP access to your website files?

That will help me to see what is the problem under the hood.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for the FTP connection details. You again did not set the reply to be private and the reply was public.

I set it to be private.

I spent a lot of time troubleshooting and could not find the reason behind the issue as the debug.log file is not generated. So there is no PHP error happening.

I am in the process of copying the website to our server so I can perform more tests there.

I am focused on this matter to be able to have at least a reason why the issue happens.

I will get back to you as soon as I have news.

Thanks.

Hi.

It is running again. So you can close this.

I was also working on it, and added more memory for PHP and disabled som other settings. I ran WPML support scripts (clean up, reindex ...), disabled and enabled plugins, cleared cache.

An now it runs again.

So you can go on to another case.

Do you have any hint of what it could be?

Funny thing is that it stopped working saturday and worked before, and in that time nothing has changed, as of what I know.

Thank you!

Regards Michael
