Background of the issue:
I was trying to update my website using WPML Multilingual CMS 4.8.4 and WPML String Translation 3.4.1. My site uses the Woodmart theme, WPBakery page builder, and Slider Revolution. After the update, I noticed issues with the English version of my site. Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link
Symptoms:
After updating to WPML 4.8.4, many English pages and menus show Italian content. The main navigation menus, HTML Blocks, homepage, and Slider Revolution modules display Italian text instead of English. The admin sidebar shows English HTML Blocks as translations of Italian Blocks, with identical content to the Italian version. No manual edits were made, and clearing WPML cache did not resolve the issue.
Questions:
Could you please confirm if this is a known regression or bug in WPML 4.8.4 affecting custom post types like woodmart_html_block and page builder content?
What is the recommended way to restore the English content (HTML Blocks, pages, menus, sliders) without losing the translation links or menu associations?
Welcome to WPML support. I checked the front end of your website on the homepage in the English language, and it seems that the menus are showing correctly with no issues.
I also checked the footer menu, and it works. Please check the attached screenshots.
Consider that I see the page when I am logged ou,t so do test and see if it works ok when you also are logged out.
Please make sure you clear your browser cache or check the website with another machine.
If the issue perissuts, please give us the exact URL that you see the problem in and maybe a screenshot of the section that has the issue so we can investigate.
If you checked today, you didn’t see any pages translated incorrectly because this morning I had to manually fix all the broken pages. The site is my client’s e-commerce, and it’s live, so leaving it in that state was a serious issue.
However, I realized there’s one page I didn’t translate yet, which I’m linking below.

As you’ll see, in the English version, both the text and the video banner created with Slider Revolution are in Italian instead of English — and this happened on many pages of the site, including the home page. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem to have affected the products.
Obviously, the pages that switched to Italian hadn’t been edited in a long time (months), neither the Italian originals. Everything happened right after updating to the latest version of WPML — a real disaster.
I hope you can help me understand and resolve the issue. Even though I’ve handled it manually, what I really need is to understand the root cause and how to fix it, if it happens again, without having to do everything by hand.
Thank you. I could not find a cause by checking the front end of the website, I might need to check the backend, but I also agree with you if it is a live website we need to check it in another way.
Would you please test by simply sending the page to translation from WPML > Translation Dashboard? And make sure the translation is 100% complete?
So basically you would not change anything, you would just re-confirm what is already translated.
See if it works?
If not, I might need a copy of the website to check the backend, Maybe if I check the revisions (if you have them ebnabled) I could find what might be the cause.
The problem is that if the revisions are not on I would not have any tools on my disposal to know what happened.
Anyway, you can set the next reply as private and provide the copy of the website info.
