Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate the Home page of the site from Italian to English. The page had already been duplicated in the past, so I no longer see the “+” icon to add a translation — only the pencil icon to edit it. Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link

Symptoms:
When clicking on the pencil icon, I expected to access the editor to modify the English translation of the Home page. Instead, I get the following error message: “WPML attempted to translate this page three times and failed. To resolve the issue, please contact WPML support.” So it is not possible to access or modify the English translation of the page.

Questions:
Why am I unable to access the editor to modify the English translation of the Home page?
What does the error message 'WPML attempted to translate this page three times and failed' mean?

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to assist you in resolving the issue.

Please try the following workaround after taking a full site backup, and check if the issue persists:

- Follow the steps outlined in this article: https://wpml.org/faq/translation-status-stuck-or-displaying-the-error-wpml-didnt-manage-to-translate-this-page/
- Edit the Homepage in the original language.
- Make a minor change to the content and save it. This will help refresh the translation settings.
- Update the translation of the homepage.
- Clear all types of caches (plugin, server-side, CDN, browser, etc.).

Also, increase *WP Memory Limit* to *256*(the minimum required memory limit for WPML is *128*). Please check the following links for more details

https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/
