This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are using the WPML translation tool, both ATE and automatic, and encountering an issue where the special character '»' (raquo) is being translated as quotation marks ('"') instead of its correct form.
Solution:
We have not been successful in persuading DeepL to address this translation issue differently. Although we plan to fix this on our end, it is not yet scheduled in any development cycle, which means a resolution might take some time. In the meantime, we recommend using a different translation engine for those pages or avoiding the use of angle quotes in this specific manner. For instance, using "this > that" does not present the same issue.

Please note that this solution might be irrelevant if it's outdated or not applicable to your case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to use your translation tool, both ATE and automatic, to translate content on my website. However, I encountered an issue with translating the special character '»' (raquo).

Symptoms:
The special character '»' (raquo) is being translated as quotation marks ('"') instead of its correct form.

Questions:
Why is the special character '»' (raquo) being translated incorrectly?
How can I fix the translation of the special character '»' (raquo)?
It would be great if you could fix this.

Hello,

I got feedback from our second tier support.

We have not been successful in persuading DeepL they should do something like this differently. We have in our roadmap to try to fix it on our end, but it's not queued in any development cycle yet, so it may take time.

The alternatives are using a different engine for those pages or not use angle quotes in this way, it works fine with "this > that" for example.

Best Regards,
Otto
