[Waiting for user confirmation] Duplicating page overwrites translation
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Our wait time is higher than usual, please make sure you are meeting the minimum requirement - https://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements before you report issues, and if you can take a look at current Known Issues - https://wpml.org/known-issues/. Thank you.
Background of the issue:
I've been using WPML for almost 8 years on many different WordPress websites. I prefer using WordPress default editor and 'Translate independently'. When creating a new page, I use the 'Yoast Duplicate post' plugin to duplicate both Italian (default language) and English pages, then edit as needed. This method has always worked on my websites.
Symptoms:
On this specific website, some pages, when duplicated, overwrite the English version with the Italian Elementor content. However, duplicating the English translation works correctly, maintaining the respective page contents.
Questions:
Why do some pages overwrite the English version with Italian content when duplicated?
How can I ensure that duplicating pages maintains their respective language content?
Languages: English (English )German (Deutsch )French (Français )

To troubleshoot this problem, I'll install the Duplicator plugin and generate packages for further debugging purposes. I'll ensure to exclude all media files to maintain a minimal package size.

I installed it and created a package.
To make sure we are on the same page with reproducing, can you record a short video using tool such as hidden link to show me the where this occurs vs. where it works properly?

I tried to reproduce this issue here: hidden link
It works properly if I try to duplicate an Italian page. Can you try yourself and confirm if this works properly here?
I tried the same as on your first video on the localhost copy of your site when only WPML plugins are activated, and with the theme set to a WordPress default Twenty Twenty, but the issue with Politex page still occurs.
I confirm that duplication in awesome-drumbox.sandbox.otgs.work works correctly.
Sorry for the dumb question but I don't get the point in using a copy that is very different from my website.
Thanks for the feedback regarding Politex.
The only thing I could think of testing on my part now is creating Politex from blank page, copy both Elementor italian and english contents and try to duplicate that.

The purpose of the sandbox test was to determine whether the issue was caused by Yoast Duplicate Post and the fact that English is not the site's default language.
I don't have any other suggestions besides your idea, but I can escalate this to our second-tier support for further investigation.

No need to restore anything, I already have a local backup of your site where I made all the tests and where the issue occurs with the "Politex" page in Italian.
Yes, you can remove Duplicator Pro. No work will be done on your site.
I am checking this with 2nd tier team, I'll get back to you as soon as I have any news or questions for you.

We've analyzed the issue you've reported. Since it's occurring randomly and we can't consistently reproduce it, the quickest way forward may be to implement a temporary workaround on the affected pages.
This workaround involves temporarily disabling WPML, duplicating the affected Italian and English pages, and then re-enabling WPML to relink the translations.
Could you confirm if you're comfortable with this approach? If not, we can proceed with a deeper debugging process, but the workaround would likely resolve things more quickly.
