This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is experiencing issues with translating the footer into Dutch. The footer remains in German despite being activated for translation in WPML settings.
Solution: 1. We recommend deactivating Sticky links in WPML. 2. Navigate to WPML > String Translation and search for the footer links to translate them. 3. Ensure to translate the footer template as well. In that particular case the client was switching between our editor and the WordPress editor and had German links in the WordPress editor. We don't recommend to switch editors to avoid such issues.
If the problem persists, we invite the client to provide us with temporary admin access to a test site where the issue is replicated. We will provide a private field for securely sharing this information, which will only be visible to the client and our support team. It is important to create a new admin account for us and to back up the site and database before proceeding.
Please note that the solution provided might be outdated or not applicable to your case. If the issue remains unresolved, we highly recommend checking the related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If necessary, do not hesitate to open a new support ticket in the WPML support forum.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
We're trying to translate our footer into Dutch. It just doesn't seem to be working. We've made sure that it's activated under WPML > Settings > Post Type Translation. But it keeps showing the footer in German and not in Dutch.
Our original language is German hidden link and our Dutch page is hidden link.
I was trying to look for the live chat function on your page, as I'm willing to give you temporary access to our wordpress but unfortunately I can't find it.
Welcome to the WPML support forum. If I understand well, your links in the footer are not translated right? Because I see that headings over those links are.
I quickly looked at the source code and noticed that most of the links are relative links (/#funktionen). WPML won't be able to translate those links automatically.
1. I would recommend to deactivate Sticky links
2. Then go to "WPML > String Translation" and search for those links to translate them
3. If you are using a footer template, please make sure to also translate it
If the issue persist after that feel free to provide me with a temporary admin access – preferably to a test site where the issue has been replicated – so I can further investigate. I will activate a private field for your next answer where you can provide that information safely (this field is only visible by you and the support team). Don't share your own admin account, create a new one that you will delete when we finish troubleshooting.
IMPORTANT: Before we proceed, please backup your site and database.
We still need assistance and I think it's best if we give you temporary access, as we are getting really frustrated. We fix it and the next day our fix has been rolled back.
Please contact me tomorrow 23 February at 13:00 CET, because our site is protected with cloud flare and I will require your ray ID to provide you with access. Last time we used your chat function - if you send me the link to your chat, I can also contact you on there. I will also need an email address to set you up with access.
Thanks very much for your help today and for the advice.
Here's a short debrief about what we discussed today.
We currently have two issues:
1. Footer: we will update the links now that we've deactivated the sticky links plugin
2. Hyperlinks on German website linking to Dutch website: We will change all the links in the German site as discussed and see if it stays that way after the weekend....
If it doesn’t work, we’ll get back to you on Monday.
Hi Nicolas,
I just wanted to say thank you again for your help last week. It worked a charm and our issue has been resolved.
Have a great week!
Best regards,
Hazel
