This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are trying to automatically translate image captions and titles using custom ACF blocks with gallery fields, but they are not being recognized by the advanced translation editor. This issue does not occur with ACF fields used directly as a page field.
Solution:
First, ensure that your image (gallery) field has the correct translation settings. You can check the official guide here: Translating ACF Blocks.
Next, in WPML:
- Go to WPML → Settings
- Locate the option to include media texts (captions, titles, alt text) in the Advanced Translation Editor and ensure it is enabled.
After updating these settings:
- Update the original page
- Re-send it for translation
- Complete the translation again
If the image captions and titles still do not appear in the translation editor, it might be due to a caching issue or a need for further configuration adjustments. In such cases, disabling Object Cache, running a local ACF sync, and making a minor change to the page before re-sending for translation can help.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, or if the solution becomes outdated, we recommend checking related known issues at WPML Known Issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket.

I'm trying to automatically translate image captions and titles but it isn't working. Maybe my setup is just wrong.

I'm using custom ACF blocks with gallery fields which are not being recognized by the advanced translation editor and so no image caption or title is translated. For custom ACF fields directly as a page field (not inside a block) it is working as expected. But for all ACF fields inside blocks, the translation is not working.

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

This usually happens when the translation preferences for ACF fields inside blocks are not configured correctly.

First, please make sure that your image (gallery) field has the correct translation settings assigned. You can check the official guide here:

Also, please verify the following in WPML:

- Go to WPML → Settings

- Locate the option to include media texts (captions, titles, alt text) in the Advanced Translation Editor

- Make sure this option is enabled

After updating these settings:

- Update the original page

- Re-send it for translation

- Complete the translation again

If everything is configured correctly, the image captions and titles should appear in the translation editor.

Let me know if this helps or if the issue still persists, and we’ll continue troubleshooting.

Kind regards,
Dražen

Hello Dražen,

Thanks for your reply. I've updated the field group to "Same fields across languages", re-saved the page and submitted it to translation again (with the option to override existing content enabled), but the images are still not translated and not visible in de advanced translation editor.

I can create a staging site for you to check out if that would streamline the debugging process.
Just tell me how i can send you the details.

Greetings, Adam

Hi Adam,

Thank you for the update.

Yes, that would be great. I’ve enabled the private reply option, so you can safely share the staging site details there.

Once I have access, I’ll take a closer look at the issue.

Regards,
Dražen

Hi Adam,

Thank you for sharing the access and details.

I’ve checked the setup and performed a few steps on my side:

- Disabled Object Cache to avoid any caching-related inconsistencies
- Ran a local ACF sync
- Made a small change to the page (title) and re-sent it for translation

After that, I can see that the image-related texts are now correctly available for translation in the editor, I translated them and and they showu p on the frontend, however, the hero (header) image is still not behaving the same way

This suggests there is likely a difference in translation settings for those groups, I see many of them still have Expert mode.

Could you please confirm:

- Which ACF field group is used for the slider
- Which ACF field group is used for the hero/featured image

Once I have that, I can check the configuration and identify what’s causing the difference, and help you fix it properly.

Regards,
Dražen

Hello Dražen,

I tried to replicate your steps on the live website, but I'm still having trouble. From the gallery block, only one image now shows up in the translation editor (see image), for the image slider, still no one shows up.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong when "sending for translation"? What are the steps there?

I've just modified the fields for the gallery block and set it to "same in all languages" as i wanted to confirm the change actually works before changing the other fieldsets aswell.

The fieldset for the slider used on the "Golf" page is:

The fieldset for the header image on the "Golf" page is:
hidden link

Thanks, Adam

Hi Adam,

Thank you for the detailed info and links, that helps a lot.

I checked the setup, and for the header image it still doesn’t behave correctly, so this might be related to a limitation or bug with that specific field type. I suggest we come back to this later.

For now, let’s focus on getting the gallery/slider images working on your production side also.

I forgot to mentiond I have changed Setings > Media translation.

- Make sure “Translate media library texts” is enabled
- Clear cache / refresh translation
- If possible, temporarily disable Object Cache
- Make a small change to the default language page (e.g. update the title)
- Save the page
-Then open the translation and re-translate it

This forces WPML to resend all fields (including images) to the Translation Editor.

From what I see, your ACF field expert configuration itself looks correct, so no concerns there.

Please try the steps above and let me know if the gallery/slider images now appear correctly in the Translation Editor.

Regards,
Dražen

Hello Dražen, thanks for your support,

the "translate media library texts" setting did the trick. I added all to the translation queue and everything got translated as expected – even for all the other fields that were in expert mode. So this was the setting that I was missing.

I've not checked all the pages in detail yet but I'm positive!
If I still need support I'll let you know.

Thanks again and have a nice day!

Adam
