Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate WooCommerce product attributes and custom tabs using WPML. I have removed a previous incompatible plugin and installed Additional Custom Product Tabs for WooCommerce The issue can be seen on this page: hidden link
Symptoms:
Product attributes that existed are suddenly not translated anymore and are not available in taxonomy translation. WooCommerce variable products cannot be purchased since variations do not exist in a second language. I can only translate both attributes and variations, not just the attributes.
Questions:
How can I translate only product attributes without translating variations?
Why are product attributes not available in taxonomy translation?
I apologize for the delay in responding. I will take care of this ticket; the reply time will be shorter now.
I visited the product and managed to added to the cart. Tabs and attributes seem to be translated now. Did you manage to solve it? If not, can you please elaborate on the steps to see the problem? Screenshots usually help us a lot.
Hi Otto
no they are not.
I cannot translate atrtibute. They do not exist in taxonomy translation anylonger.as you can see there is no switch to language in the attribute page and they do not appear in wpml taxonomy translator
❌ Please make a full website backup before proceeding ❌
1. Check whether WPML still “sees” the attributes
Open WPML → Settings → Taxonomy Translation
* If the attribute is listed but its status is “Not translatable”, change it to “Translatable – only show translated items” and save.
* As soon as you change the status, WPML should re-enable the Taxonomy Translation tab so you can translate the terms.
Installing or removing a plugin can sometimes re-register the same taxonomy and WPML marks it as “new” and non-translatable, which hides it from the interface.
2. Attribute not listed at all in WPML
If the attribute does not appear in WPML → Settings:
2.1. Go to **WPML → Support → Troubleshooting** and run, in this order:
• **Assign taxonomy terms to languages**
• **Fix terms’ parents** (if shown)
• **Synchronize product meta**
2.2. Return to **WPML → Settings** and see if the attribute is now listed.
Hi otto,
in Taxonomy Translation I found some of the attribute but they are not called "attribute" but Product *** (see picture).
Some attribute are missing.
If I go to Troubleshooting, command you listed do no exist so i cannot run them. (see pircture)
I don't know if I have to reset some links in the taxonomise linking tab (see picture
Hi, I'm still trying to solve it.
Can you explain me the meaning of "plural" and how to change it?
It makes no sense in ITALIAN and I don't know why is not the slug I suppose to be
Singular "Vigna" is "Vigne" as plural. Product Vigna means nothing
How to change it?
Please onfirm is not the slug (that is set in attribues and it's diferent from that text)
An attribute has two labels, singular and plural i.e. color - colors. And then the slug. If the plural makes no sense, you can set it the same as the singular.
Then, you can translate the labels. And the slug.
The slug is not appearing in the taxonomy translation.
Can you please check that the product attribute is set to "Translatable" in:
WPML > Settings > Taxonomy Translation
You can also translate its slug there, check the screenshot attached please.
hi Otto, finally I managed all translations and have put in order all related terms. But i still don't see any way to switch between languages when I visit the product attrbute page as it was before and as it still is for product categories
see picture
all attributes have bee translated but they are not grouped as attribute in the taxonomy translation tab and they appear as single taxonomy item
see picture
all traslations exist, but translated product still haven't attribute
see picture
they are "Translatable" in:
WPML > Settings > Taxonomy Translation
About the language switcher in the attribute edit page. I am seeing the same behavior in a test site. I'll check if this is a bug. Meanwhile, if you need to reach it, you can switch languages before. I mean, in Dashboard change to the language you need and then go to WooCommerce > Attributes. You'll see the terms in the selected language.
Regarding the variations. In the screenshot you've share: 17310653-Schermata_2025_08_11_alle_17.35.14.png, there is a button below the table, "Sincronizza...". Can you please click it?
Hi Otto!
Thanks that worked!
now all attributes are properly linked to product in both language.
let me know in case about the other menu issue, but it's a minor issue at the moment
