This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are experiencing issues with manual edits in WPML's Advanced Translation Editor (ATE) not saving or reverting to autotranslated text.
Solution:
Ensure that the original text segments you are editing have not been changed. In WPML's ATE, translations are saved per segment. For instance, if 'Hello from this side' is automatically translated to 'Bonjour de ce côté' and you manually edit it to 'Bonjour de ce', this edited translation will be saved in the translation memory and used whenever the original segment 'Hello from this side' appears on the site. However, if the original English text is altered, WPML will treat it as new text, requiring a fresh translation. Therefore, verify that the original text remains unchanged where you notice translations are lost.

If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we recommend opening a new support ticket. We also advise checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
I'm trying to make manual edits to content that has been autotranslated to Spanish using WPML's ATE on our site hidden link.

Symptoms:
Our manual edits in ATE are not saving or are reverting to autotranslated text.

Questions:
Why are my manual edits in ATE not saving?
Why do saved edits revert to autotranslated text?

Hello there,

Thank you for contacting WPML support. I'd be happy to assist you on this issue.

Can you provide me the job id where you are trying to save the manual edits, or are you using WordPress editor to make the manual changes?

If you can provide few screenshots with the issue, it will be helpful.

Look forward to your reply.

Thanks

Thanks Shekhar,
Here is one of the problematic urls:

hidden link

In this case, there is a large paragraph of text missing in the ATE, but that text is visible in the front end of the page.

Let me know if you'd like me to share some other examples where we have had issues.

Also, in general, we're not clear on how the ATE works: Let's say the site is set to "translate what I choose" and all my pages have been auto-translated into Spanish. I go into a Spanish page ATE and make some manual edits to the Spanish in the ATE.

If I later make an edit to the English version of the page and send it for auto-translation in Spanish, will this process overwrite the manual changes I have made previously to the Spanish?

Hello there,

Translations are saved for each segements so for example:

Hello from this side. is translated to Bonjour de ce côté using automatic translations, and you opened the ate and made the changes to Bonjour de ce

Now if you use Hello from this side anywhere in the site, it will use the manual edited translations from translation memory. But if you edited the original text, you will need to use translate it again as WPML will treat it as an new original text.

Can you make sure that the original was unchanged for you where the translations are lost?

I hope this helps.

Thanks

Yes, this makes sense, thank you. However I don't understand why some paragraphs of translated text disappeared as shown in my previous message. What would cause this to happen? Are you able to take a look at our configuration and see if something is wrong?

thanks

Hello there,

The page is already translated so it's hard for me to debug this further, do you have other pages example where I can see the issue?

Look forward to your reply.

Thanks

Hi Shekhar,

Here are some of the other issues we're experiencing:

1. When we review translation in the ATE, sometimes when we go to click “Complete Translation”, we get a message to “Save all sentences before finishing”. This is very tedious on a page with a lot of text, and it’s not clear which sentences need to be saved. Sometimes we keep clicking “Save” on each sentence, but we can never resolve the "Save all sentences" message so we can't complete the translation on the page. (Also it doesn’t always occur, and sometimes we can click “Complete Translation” without manually clicking Save on every sentence. )

Can you explain what’s happening or if this is an error? What is the expected behavior when you are in the ATE? Do you need to click Save on every sentence if you are not making changes? Here are 2 examples of pages where these issues are occuring:

2. We are sometimes unable to enter the ATE on a page because it says someone is currently editing the translation. But no one is editing the translation. Is there a way to override this if/when it happens? Is it somehow getting “stuck” in edit mode? For example:

This page (id 4482) was also having the same issues as #1 above, where we get stuck in the ATE and keep being told to save all sentences.

thanks for your help!
