Background of the issue:
We have recently migrated our website, hidden link, to a new hosting platform. However, I am trying to resolve an issue with the WPML plugin where users can no longer click on it to see translated pages. In the back-end, there is a notification about the site previously being at hidden link and now at the same URL. I am unsure how to proceed because the website has not technically moved.

Symptoms:
When I click 'Yes' to the notification, it asks for a Migration Code, but I cannot access the Tools area of the plugin to find that code. When I click 'No', it warns that I will not be able to use automatic translation on the old site and that accessing the old site will trigger warnings. I'm hesitant to proceed with the "No" option because I'm worried the plugin will mess up and no allow us to use automatic translations on the "new" site.

Questions:
How can I resolve the issue with the WPML plugin not showing translated pages after migration?
What should I do about the notification regarding the site being at the same URL?
How can I access the Migration Code if I cannot access the Tools area of the plugin?
Will proceeding with 'No' affect the automatic translation on the current site?

Hello,

Please use the second option "No / I changed the address of this site to this new one".

In the second step confirm the migration.

Finally, go to WPML > Support > Installer Support and click "Check now".

Revise in the bottom section if the site key can be validated.

Usually, WPML needs to be registered again if the server of the site, the site domain, or the domain provider changes.

If this is the case:

1) Go to https://wpml.org/de/account/websites/

2) If the site URL is already registered, delete it from the list.

3) Now enter the site URL again. This creates a new site key.

4) Click on "Show key" and copy it.

5) Enter the key under Plugins > Install > Commercial (tab) to register WPML again. If WPML is still registered here, unregister it first.

If this will not solve the problem or you might run into issues like missing translation memory inside the Advanced Translation Editor, then please let us know.

Best regards
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Thank you so much for your response! Much appreciated.

Before I proceed with the "No / I changed the address of this site to this new one" option, can you confirm that we would still be able to edit the translations on our website? When I click on the "No" option, I am presented with the following text:

"You indicated that you’re no longer running a copy of this site at hidden link. This means that:
- You will not be able to use automatic translation on the old site
- If you access the old site, it will trigger warnings on this site

[checkbox] I understand and am no longer running this site at hidden link"

This message concerns me because the domain has not changed at all. It was hidden link before and it still is now. I'm concerned that if I proceed the plugin will not allow us to automatically translate anything on the website. Does that make sense?

The issue might be that if you choose "Copy" then you will be expected to connect the old site with the new site and as the old site no longer exists, this might fail.

Your translation remains save on the database.

The migration can only impact the Features of the Advanced Translation Editor, like translation memory, glossary, or credits for automatic translation.

If you run into issues, please let us know and we should be able to solve them manually on our system.

Thanks, Andreas. I've completed these steps and everything looks fine on the translated pages. However, I have one other issue that I am having difficulty troubleshooting.

On the homepage of co4kids.org, when I click on "Espanol" in the top left corner of the page (or any of the other languages), it does not load the Spanish version of the homepage. However, whenever I am on any other page and click the "Espanol" button, the translated version appears.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions on how to resolve this issue on the homepage? I'm struggling to identify the solution.

Did you verify if the translation for the Spanish homepage is completed to 100% and the page is published?

If so, I would like to ask for temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to the site to investigate the issue further.

The required fields are below the comment section when you log in to leave the next reply. The information you provide is private, meaning only you and I can see and access it.

IMPORTANT
Please be sure to back up the site and database before granting us access.

If you cannot see the "wp-admin / FTP" fields, your post and site credentials will be set to "PUBLIC". DO NOT publish the data unless you see the required wp-admin / FTP fields.

Hi Andreas,

Thank you for the reply.

Before I provide that information to you, I have another quick question. The co4kids.org website is not technically registered under our WPML account. It was registered by another developer a while ago, and we have inherited the website for our current contract.

So, I have a few questions before we move forward:

First, do we need access to the account that the plugin is registered under to continue receiving support?

If we need this access and have to unregister and re-register the WPML plugin, how will this affect our current translations? Will it remove all the translations? We would like to avoid this removal if possible.

If there is a risk of the translated content being removed during the re-registration process, is there a way we can migrate the current registration from the original account to our current one?

Please let me know your thoughts so we can proceed with troubleshooting.

Please ask the developer to remove the site from his/her account first.

Then register WPML on your site. This will not remove any existing translations on your site, as they remain saved on the database.

If you run afterward into any issues, for example missing translation memory inside the Advanced Translation Editor, please let us know and we will take a look into the system.
