We have a two language website - UK English as the default and US English as the secondary. The client has asked if the url can just say /us/ in the url rather than /en-us/.
Is this possible

There's been quite a lot of work done on the site and I really don't want to have to create a new language for accomplish this.

If there isn't a way to do this in the WPML interface is there a way to do this through the database perhaps?

Thanks for your patience. I’ve reviewed your request, and unfortunately, it isn’t possible to change the language code directly.

As an alternative, you can add a new language using your preferred language code and then bulk-duplicate the existing content into that new language.
