This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is experiencing issues with their WPML setup on a site under development. Specific problems include the homepage not behaving as expected in translated versions and confusion about URL slugs for translated pages. Solution: 1. For the homepage not appearing correctly in translated versions, ensure that the translated page is defined as the homepage in WordPress settings. This setup typically changes the permalink to include a language code (e.g., /de) when configured correctly. 2. To address issues with URL slugs in translations, the configuration of WPML needs to be checked. If the client wishes to have specific slugs that match the page titles, they can adjust this in WPML settings. Detailed guidance on configuring slugs can be found in the WPML Slug Translation Guide. 3. If the translation progress shows less than 100%, the client should click the "+" in the segment within the advanced editor to complete the translation.
Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, feel free to open a new support ticket at WPML Support Forum.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Background of the issue:
I am working on a site under development and need support with WPML.
Symptoms:
My last case was aborted with the message: An error occurred. All suggestions were useless or irrelevant - workaround UNDEFINED.
Questions:
Please restore the last case and find a solution !
Re your requirements:
1. Minimum requirements for WPML are 128Mb - satisfied
2. WordPress Rest API must enabled - WordPress Rest API is active by default from WordPress core 4.7. Mine: WordPress 6.5.5 running Twenty Twenty-Four theme.
Handle ASAP
I repeat the case:
Case1.Image1
1. What is “beispiel-seite” (example usage) in the URL of the origin?
The URL of the original (English) page is: hidden link
2. The translated URL: dev-mid-century-design-mobel-aus-mitteleuropa
is definitely a translation of the Page Title.
This contradicts the setting:
Case1.Image2
What went wrong?
3. After “complete translation” the following page is presented:
Case1.Image3
The original page looks like this:
Case1.Image4
The width of the page is not preserved.
The footer and the header are different.
Why???
4. I have not clicked on “Übersetzung veröffentlichen“ (publish the translation“)
Case1.Image5
the german translation is not available outside WP – “Page not found” (expected behaviour), however, the status is “competed”:
Case1.Image6
What is the difference between status “competed” and the page published?
5. If I publish the translated page can I later change the URL (slug)?
6. Your Requirements (from the ticket):
6.1 Minimum requirements for WPML are 128Mb – satisfied
6.2 WordPress Rest API is active by default from WordPress core 4.7 to latest version.
My: WordPress 6.5.5 running Twenty Twenty-Four theme.
Hi Andreas,
Thanks for a prompt reply.
Regretfully doesn't work.
I enclosed the protocole - as images of pages of docx. Is other format like PDF possible?
regards
Alex
What I do:
1. Review from WPML.Translations
2. “Übersetzung bearbeiten” (Advanced Translation Editor?)
3. “Compete translation”
The problem is that the text in Review is different from Advanced Translation Editor
(WPML vs. WPML1) and the STATUS is not changing to completed, but stays review.
Cf. Enclosure
More serious problem are:
1. WPML uses standard Footer and Header and not those which I use
2. The width of page is wrong
I don't know if you use something like webex or zoom - could be helpfull

Hi,
I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to the site to investigate the issue further.

Hi Andreas,
the issue is not resolved, I've tried to translate other pages - no success.
Can I publish a page to see how it looks like and then revert it?
It takes some time to create for you a wp-admin and a ftp user (I do it with my provider), but in 3 days it will be definetely ready.
I do see the "wp-admin / FTP" fields when I click on DB backup and disclaimer.
I will use them after the users for you are created
regards
Alex

Hi Alex,
Access to wp-admin should be sufficient to investigate this issue. We can then create a copy of the site using the plugin "All In One WP Migration", or migrate a copy ot our test-server on Cloudways, if necessary.
The problem is that the login of the wp-admin new user on the dev.mid-century-design.com hidden link
doesn't work.
I think that is what you would need.
Reason - the password is not accepted.
My provider thinks that the reset of pwd in DB can be a workaround.
We are checking and I hope tomorrow the solution will be found.
After that I will proceed to FTP - seems to be no problem.
Only after OK please enable the private mode.
I will infrom you instantly

Thank you for providing access!
Before we proceed with testing and debugging, could you please run all available updates (15) including the updates for WPML and all other plugins and the active theme, to confirm if the issue persists after running those updates?
I have updated all ACTIVE plugins.
The message:
The "gutenberg-edit-pages-panel" plugin has encountered an error and cannot be rendered.
comes when editining any page.
Has it something to do with WPML?
I think I can not proceed until the issue is not clarified.
Your opnion?
