This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client wants to completely remove WPML and all associated data from their site to start over with a fresh installation, using .mo files for translations.
Solution:
We recommend following the detailed steps provided in our documentation to reset WPML. This process will help you remove WPML along with all saved settings and translations. You can find the guide here: Deleting Languages and Plugin Data by Doing a WPML Reset on Your Site.
After resetting, you can start afresh with the proper setup using .mo files for translations. If you encounter any issues during this process or have specific strings that you cannot translate, please do not hesitate to open a new support ticket so we can assist you with that particular issue.

Please note that the solution provided might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please contact our support team for further assistance.

Background of the issue:
I would like to completely remove WPML so I can start again, but properly this time. I'm rebuilding the site hidden link. I've found that the translations were badly done, mostly by string translation and other methods which I don't understand, so I'd like to completely remove WPML and start again but doing it properly with .mo files.

Symptoms:
Translations were badly done, mostly by string translation and other methods which I don't understand.

Questions:
How can I completely remove WPML from my site?
What is the proper way to start using WPML with .mo files?

Hi there.

Please take a look here:
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/language-setup/deleting-languages-and-plugin-data-by-doing-a-wpml-reset-on-your-site/

That should guide you through all the steps that need to be followed to remove WPML + the saved settings and translations properly.

I hope that you will find this information helpful.

If you face any specific situation where you can't translate specific strings, please do not hesitate to open a ticket for that issue so that our team can properly focus on one issue per ticket.

Thanks Mihai,

Not sure the documentation matches what I can see, I don't see a list of languages that I can delete.

I will remove all .mo and .po, then do the reset and see how it goes.

You are welcome.

Maybe there are no media, pages and other types of content from that list that exist in other languages?

Please let me know how things go.
