Background of the issue:
I am using Polylang at this moment, but it is not compatible with the Hotel Booking plugin. I installed WPML and it messed up the site. I already have pages in all languages and do not want WPML to translate these pages. I want to keep the existing pages and only do manual translation and use WPML as a language switcher.

Symptoms:
I do not see the Facilities in the accommodations in English and German anymore. WPML created extra pages.

Questions:
How can I configure WPML to only use it as a language switcher without automatic translation?
How do I prevent WPML from creating extra pages when I already have pages in all languages?

Hello,

Translation created with Polylang can not be used with WPML directly. You will need to migrate the content from Polylang to WPML:
https://wpml.org/documentation/migrate-polylang-wpml/

Have you tried this already?

It would also be very helpful if you could provide us with WPML debugging information.
More information here:

Best regards
Andreas

Hi I cannot provide the debug info.
After installing and activating WPML and everything went wrong and my website was a mesh.
I deactivated WPML and recovered my site with a backup. So not using it at this moment.
But because Polylang is not working correctly with my site i have to do something.

I want to use WPML as a language switcher and do translations manual and use WPML as help.

Can dit be done with the migration help or do. i have to install WPML another way?

Best regards,

Reinier

You will get an error if you run Polylang and WPML at the same time.

You need to follow this guide to migrate from Polylang to WPML:
https://wpml.org/documentation/migrate-polylang-wpml/

Please give this a try. If you need my assistance with that, let me know.

Last question i think. I am going to migrate. In that process can i say that translation must go manual. In fact i want to use WPML more as a language switcher.

Both plugins use a different way to build language relations inside the database. The migration plugin will make sure that your existing Polyglot translations will work inside WPML.

It is very important that you use the migration plugin, as otherwise your existing content will not have any language information inside WPML.

After that, in WPML, you can decide if you want to translate the contents with:

- WPML Translation Dashboard
Here, you can use automatic translation or assign jobs to yourself or other local translators. You can even make use of professional translation services, if you wish.

- WPML Translation Editor
Let you or other users of the website translate the content with the WPML Translation Editor. This editor comes with translation memory, glossary and the ability to use automatic translation, if desired.

- WordPress Editor
Let you create translations directly on the WordPress Editor or Page Builder of your choice.
