Hi there,

We have a bilingual website and we are planning to use the 'different domains per language' option.
The English domain is ocaf-faco.ca, and the French domain is faco-ocaf.ca
I did read this article (https://wpml.org/tutorials/2016/04/use-wpml-different-domains-per-language/) on how to achieve this, but found it a bit confusing.

The site is up on ocaf-faco.ca. In godaddy, I have already updated the 'A record' for faco-ocaf.ca (French domain) to the same IP address as 'ocaf-faco.ca'.

Is that all I need to do in the DNS settings?

If so, then do I login to the wordpress dashboard WPML settings, change the language url format to 'A different domain per language' and enter in the second/french domain?

Thank you!

Hey Paul,

Welcome to the WPML support forum.

In order to have the additional domain working for your site, you must be attentive to the following topics:

1) Have the domain point to the same server as the original domain (you've said that it has already been done)

2) Create an alias in the .com domain to point to the new domain (no redirections setup or anything is needed, just set it up as an alias. If you are not sure about that, you can ask your hosting support to do this for you)

3) The alias is set up correctly when you type the .com domain, and you'll be automatically redirected to the new domain (you might have to wait for the DNS to spread, and this could take from only a few minutes to 48h)

4) Then, you can go to WPML -> Languages -> Language URL format and validate the domains

Please let me know if these explanations are understandable to you.

Thanks,
Mateus.
