Problem:
The client reported two issues: firstly, the English flag button was not redirecting to the English version of the site but instead was redirecting back to the Italian homepage. Secondly, the site encountered a critical error upon refreshing, which only occurred when WPML plugins were active.
Solution:
We first addressed the redirection issue by identifying that some English pages were not correctly linked as translations of the Italian pages. We recommended deleting unnecessary English pages and correctly linking the remaining ones to their respective Italian versions.
For the critical error, we suggested updating all themes and plugins to their latest versions to rule out conflicts with outdated software. After updates, we performed additional fixes to the database, which resolved the issues.

Sorry for coming back to you, but I just noticed an issue.
The English flag button is not working correctly: when I click on it, it redirects me back to the Italian home page instead of switching to English.

Hello Amina,

I’ve checked this further and it looks like there are some English pages that are not connected to their original Italian pages as translations.

I recommend first cleaning up and deleting any English pages that are not needed. After that, please edit the Italian version of the page and connect it to the correct English translation.

I’ve just done this for your homepage as an example. You can see the steps in this short video:

thanks for checking.

I’ve reviewed this further and can see that some errors also appear when trying to create a new page. This suggests there may still be some underlying corruption that I have maybe missed.

To proceed, could you please update your theme and all plugins to their latest versions? This will help us confirm that the issue is not related to an outdated third-party theme or plugin.

Once this is done, please let me know. If the issue is still present after the updates, I’ll escalate this further to our second-tier team for a deeper investigation.

Ok, I will try updating the plugins to see if that helps.

However, I noticed that the issue only occurs when the WPML plugins are active.
When I deactivate the WPML plugins, there is no critical error.
