This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is experiencing an issue where attempting to add and save authors on language variants results in an error message: 'Could not update the meta value of footnotes in the database', and the post won't save. Removing the author allows the post to save.
Solution:
We have not encountered this specific issue before and could not find similar cases in our support forum. To assist further, we need more information about the 'footnotes' feature. Specifically, we need to know if it is part of a specific plugin or theme and which plugin or module adds this field. Additionally, detailed steps to reproduce the issue would be helpful.

Hi Andrey,

Just confirming this is now working for the client, thanks for your help on this.

While I have you, we had another issue that we could decide whether was related to WPML - I was going to see if this resolved it, but it hasn't. It seems to be a common issue but without much RE fixes.

When I try to add and save authors on language variants, I get 'Could not update the meta value of footnotes in the database' error message, and the post wont save. Remove the author and the post saves fine.

Before we close this out are you OK to confirm whether that issue is related to WPML config and if you've seen it before? If you don't have an answer I'll just log a separate ticket for it / look at it further myself.

Thanks

Rob

Hi,

Thank you for the update.

I haven’t seen this issue before, and after checking the support forum, I wasn’t able to find any similar reports either.

To better understand what’s happening, could you please provide a bit more information?
• What exactly is “footnotes”? Is it a feature from a specific plugin or theme?
• Which plugin or module adds this field?
• Could you share the exact steps to reproduce the issue on your site?

Once I have these details, I’ll be able to check it further.

If I Google the error, I'm getting the following links:

hidden link

Maybe worth trying the workaround from there if it applies.
