Hello WPML Support Team,
I’m experiencing an issue where the WPML setup wizard will not load on my site.
When I click “Set up WPML”, the page remains blank and the wizard never starts.
Here are the details of what I have already checked and tested:
• WordPress admin loads normally
• I am logged in as Administrator
• WPML Multilingual CMS and String Translation are installed and active
• OTGS Installer is disabled
• REST API and admin-ajax are working
• No JavaScript errors appear in the browser console
• No network requests are triggered when clicking Setup
• Languages tables were reset via WPML Troubleshooting
• Plugins and theme conflicts were tested
• Caching and optimization are not active
• Hosting: SiteGround
Despite all of the above, the WPML setup wizard does not launch.
Could you please advise on what might be preventing the setup wizard from initializing?
If you need access details or additional diagnostics, I can provide them.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Gorka

Hello,
I’m following up on the issue with the WPML setup wizard not loading.
In our previous conversation, it was suggested to convert the chat into a ticket and create a staging copy of the site to test with minimal settings. I haven’t received any further update since then, so I just wanted to check the status.
Please let me know if you still need access or any credentials from my side to proceed with the staging test.
Thank you.

Hi Gorka,

Sorry for the delay. At the moment, a migration is not required, as this can be resolved directly in your database.

Please follow these steps:

1) Create a full database backup.
2) Open your WordPress database and access the wp_options table.
3) Search for the key "WPML(setup)" and rename it to "WPML(setup2)".
4) After that, the issue should be resolved.

If you need assistance deleting or renaming the key, I will need access to phpMyAdmin or another database management tool you are using.

Best regards,
Marcel

Hi Marcel,

Thank you for the instructions.

I created a full database backup and accessed the database through phpMyAdmin. I located the key “WPML(setup)” in the wp_options table and renamed it to “WPML(setup2)” as instructed.

However, the issue persists. When I go to WPML and click “Set up WPML”, the page is still blank and the setup wizard does not load.

Please let me know what you would recommend as the next step, or if you would prefer access to phpMyAdmin to check it directly. How can I give you access?

Best regards,
Gorka

Hi Gorka,

I wouldneed to request temporary access (WP-Admin, phpmyadmin and FTP) to your site
– preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible –
in order to be of better help and check if some configurations might need to be changed

Your next answer will be private which means only you and I have access to it.

❌ Please backup your database and website ❌

✙ I would additionally need your permission to de-activate and re-activate Plugins and the Theme, and to change configurations on the site. This is also a reason the backup is really important.

✙ Please add the Links to the […] Edit Screen, the Page/Post where you insert the […] and the corresponding Front End Page/Screen

Best Regards,
Marcel

Hi,

It seems there is an issue with the username. It looks like the URL may have been pasted into the username field. Could you please check this and try again?

Best regards,
Marcel

Hi,

I would also need access to phpMyAdmin to review the database entries.
Alternatively, if you allow, I can install a database management plugin and use that instead.

Best regards,
Marcel

Hi Marcel,
Thank you for your message.
You have my permission to install a database management plugin and use it to access the database for troubleshooting.
Please proceed as needed.
Best regards,
Gorka

Hi Gorka,

you can proceed with the setup now. We identified an issue where a WordPress core URL rewrite function was failing in certain server environments, which caused the setup to get stuck. This has now been resolved.

Best regards,
Marcel
