Background of the issue:
On both of our live websites, we experience an issue every few weeks where the WooCommerce shop homepage does not work—but only in the German language. Instead of displaying the product categories, it shows a message stating that no products were found.
The strange part is: simply re-saving the shop page and then re-saving the German version—without making any changes—immediately resolves the issue.
This is very frustrating for us, because our website stops functioning correctly and we don’t always notice it right away.
Symptoms:
The WooCommerce shop homepage sporadically shows a message stating that no products were found instead of displaying the product categories. Re-saving the shop page and the German version resolves the issue temporarily.
Thank you for reaching out to WPML support. While one of my colleagues picks up this ticket, I’d like to provide some initial debugging steps to help you get started.
It sounds like the issue might be related to your site's permalinks. Please go to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes to flush the permalink cache.
Additionally, try temporarily deactivating any caching or SEO plugins and check if the issue persists.
Hello, I’ve already explained which workaround temporarily resolves the issue (save shop page in English and German). It would probably also work to simply resave the permalinks, but my goal is not a temporary fix. I’m looking for a permanent solution. As I mentioned, the problem reoccurs every few weeks.
Since this is a live production website, disabling the SEO plugins is not a viable option. The issue appears sporadically and we can’t keep the site running without an active SEO plugin for such extended periods. However, I do recall that this issue was already present even before any SEO plugin was used.
I understand your frustration and need for a permanent fix, but note it is very difficult to fix this kind of random issues, that is why I will suggest few things that could help us understand why it happens and what is causing it.
1) Please create a staging site, and check if the issue still happens there or if some specific action caused it?
2) If issue still happens there, try to disable any cache / hosting cache and lets see if issue still happens.
3) Try to leave only required plugins, like WPML and WooCommerce and disable others to see if any might have caused it.
Let us know how it goes.
Regards,
Drazen
