Background of the issue:
I am trying to use the WPML plugin to translate an accordion widget on my website hidden link. I have three modules (templates) for the three options of my accordion. In the original language, it works fine.

Symptoms:
In the translated page, the accordion widget shows other characters instead of the expected content.

Questions:
Why does the accordion widget display incorrect characters in the translated page?
How can I fix the character display issue in the translated accordion widget?

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to help you to resolve the issue.

This may be a compatibility issue. Are you facing similar issues with any other widgets?

Please try the following steps after a full site backup and make sure the issue exists or not.

1) Upgrade to the latest version of WordPress (6.7.1)

2) Increase the *MaxInputVars* of PHP settings to *10000*. Please check the following article for more details or contact your system admin/hosting provider for this purpose.

3) Go to WPML>>Support page, click on the Troubleshooting link (blue link in the middle of the page)

4) On the Troubleshooting page, please click on the following options of the *Clean up* section. Wait for confirmation of processing after each one.

- Clear the cache in WPML
- Remove ghost entries from the translation tables
- Fix element_type collation
- Set language information
- Fix WPML tables collation
- Assign translation status to duplicated content
- Fix terms count
- Fix post type assignment

Thanks for you standard recommendations: I did all but did not fixed my problem that is:
a) In the translated accordion it shows +- before the text
b) The translated accordion cannot be compressed or expanded
The accordion in the original page works perfectly

By the way, I cannot upgrade to WordPress 6.7.1 because a problem with the string translation that it is still not fixed

Hello,

Thank you for the details and login information. I can log in and reproduce the issue. It looks like a compatibility issue with Essential Addons for Elementor's Accordion Widget.

So this requires further testing. Please let us know if is it okay to troubleshoot this bug at hidden link. We hope you have a full site backup.

Hello,

I had a few rounds of testing on the site and the issue exists in a minimal setup (when all other plugins are inactive).

So for further debugging, I created a test site in our sandbox server (a fresh installation) and configured it like your live site. Reproducing the bug in a fresh installation will help us a lot in debugging and we can escalate the ticket directly to our compatibility team. Thank you for your kind understanding.

Please click this URL to access the backend of the test site - hidden link

One request. Please create a simple page with the Accordion widget in the sandbox site and translate it to secondary languages. Then make sure the bug exists or not.

I created a page ("simple page") with a standard accordion and it works perfectly.

Another page ("second page") was created with the "advanced accordion" and inserting three templates with the text. This test was also ok.

I did it in the same way as in our wordpress installation, so I don't know what is the root cause of the failure.

By the way, if you enter our site again, please do not disable all plugins, because they are needed for the correct presentation of our site. I found all of them were disabled yesterday.

Hello,

Thank you for the feedback and for trying to replicate the bug on our sandbox site. This requires further debugging.

Please note that I have deactivated the plugins on hidden link to make sure the bug exists in a minimal setup or not.

Therefore is it possible to create a new staging/dev site on the same server for our testing? Because it will help us to troubleshoot the bug without affecting your site - hidden link

If not, please allow me to make a duplicator copy of your site using the Duplicator plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/) for debugging the issue on our local servers.

Juan

Current site is a new one and I still have the old site, just in case. So, I prefer to do not duplicate again this site. If you can duplicate in your local server, I will appreciate it.

Thanks for your support
