This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client reported that the word 'reduced' still displays in Portuguese on their product category page, even after updating the glossary and re-translating. Additionally, previously translated content does not update when re-sent for translation.
Solution:
If you're experiencing similar issues, we recommend you try the following steps:
1. Navigate to WPML > Settings and uncheck the option "Don't show translated taxonomies in Translation Editor".
2. Go to WPML > Translation Management, send the post with taxonomy for translation, and choose to overwrite the existing translation.

This solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

The initial issue is still there (The word *reduced* is still displayed in Portugese, even after updating the glossary and clicking on Update existing translations).

The product used for the translation job was hidden link

Additionally, existing translated content does not get translated the 2nd time around when I send the product for translation.

please try next steps:

- Go to WPML > Translation Management, send post with taxonomy for translation and chose to overwrite existing translation,

Just adding on here that sending the post for translation doesn't seem to update the description in the product category at all. So I think the main issue might be the failure to update/overwrite the taxonomies.

what product are you using to retranslate the category description?

I see the one you shared with me uses manual approach (WordPress editor) and not WPML editor (ATE), note you should not mix translation methods as some content may get lost.

In this case if you are using manual approach you should continue to use that one, and adjust your 2nd category text manually.

Hi,
1. The only languages that were manually translated were French, German and Spanish.
2. We created a (temporary) product (hidden link) to translate all taxonomies automatically for Portuguese and Chinese,using DeepL.
3. We then ran the automatic translation for Portuguese and Chinese.
4. We then noticed the word "reduced" not being translated.
5. This is when we reached out for support.
6. Looking at your response, we added a (temporary) product and by default, it is set to the WordPress editor, is that the issue? and should we select the WPML editor (ATE) before ticking all the taxonomies to be automatically translated?

Hello,

1) you can not translate manually some language and some not. You can only set to use manual translation (WordPress editor) for some post types or not etc.

If you are using one method that means other is not used, nor should be used as it wont work correctly, nor you should mix methods for same post (product) etc.

2) If you wish to use WPML ATE editor for that product, you need to make the switch and then send product for translation from Translation Management. Note that any changes / content you added manually will not be seen by WPML editor, and you will need to add them / translate again in WPML editor.

3) If you wish to use WordPress editor / manual approach, you can just simple edit the 2nd language category text and adjust it how you wish.

Hi Drazen,

We've resent the product for translation, this time using the WPML editor, but there's no difference in the outcome.

All we're trying to do is update a taxonomy translation, but we're not making any progress.

We're using the original translation method, the same one that was used initially.

It's possible that taxonomies don't get updated the second time around, but WPML doesn't mention this anywhere. Thinking about it, when you auto-translate a new product, does it also attempt to auto-update the taxonomies linked to that product?

Please advise further.

yes, you need to make new translation (overwrite) and include that translated taxonomy for translation, I have mentioned the correct steps in first reply.

You need to follow those steps now that you are using WPML editor and it will re-translate:

Hi again Drazen,

I created a new product, selected the WPML editor and selected the taxonomy to be translated as well.

After sending the product for translation and selecting overwrite existing translations, the taxonomy translation still does not get updated.

Hi,

Thanks for this. I now see what the issue was.
I had to make a change on the product itself, for the product to be "registered" for translation, which now updates my taxonomies as needed. I believe this is sorted now and we can close this ticket.
