Background of the issue:
I initially designed a website in French for a client. They have now requested that we set English as the default language, so I changed the default language of the website to English. I created the French translation so that my client can directly edit it when changes are made to the English version. Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link
Symptoms:
Only my account has access to the French translation, and I can't assign it to a new translator. My page indicates that its default language is French, which doesn't seem to be properly configured. The website is configured with English as the primary language, but my translated page is set to French as the primary language. None of my translators have access to the translations I started with an admin account.
Questions:
How can I assign the French translation to a new translator even if the translation is complete?
How can I properly configure the default language from English to French?
If you're the administrator of the Website, you should be able to adjust this. I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.
Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.
Your upcoming reply will be treated with confidentiality and will only be visible to you and me.
✙ To resolve the issue, I may need your consent to deactivate and reactivate plugins and the theme, as well as make configuration changes on the site if necessary. This emphasizes the significance of having a backup.
Please check out this screen recording hidden link that shows you what I've done to change the default language of a page. Could you check and see if your translators are able to translate the page now?
Hello, thank you for the video, it will be useful for future reference. However, I’m still encountering errors. When I try to access the French translation to show my client how to adjust it, it doesn't appear in the translation tab from wpml menu, even when I try to re-add it. Exemple: hidden link
However, I can see that if I’m on the front end of my website in French, I have the option at the top to select "Edit translation," which takes me to the WPML editor. The menu translation seems to have disappeared, which I can understand.
When you attempt to access the French translation by clicking the pencil icon, it is expected behavior to navigate to the primary language page. From there, simply click the pencil icon next to the French language in the sidebar to resume the translation process.
If the WPML > Translations queue is empty, go to WPML > Translation Management > Translators, add yourself as a translator, and assign the relevant language. After that, revisit WPML > Translations and let me know if the queue appears.
Hello, since our site was originally built in French, could you help me find the items that were in the theme library? They are currently on the French side, but ideally, we need them on the English side since our default language is now English, so I can work on a few elements. Yesterday, when I tried to adjust some things, my items got deleted. A backup was restored, so it's fine now, but I don't want that to happen again. As for the translation work issue that wasn't in the queue, it seems to have been resolved.
