I have chosen the classic editor in settings but when I changed a couple of words in the original, two large sections were ENTIRELY erased in the translation I just made!! How do I prevent this from happening? I am not interested in having any of my work deleted

Hi there.

Before this ticket gets assigned to one of my colleagues, I will try to help.

Probably between the translation for this page and the default language there's a "duplicate" relationship.

Please take a look here (https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/displaying-untranslated-content-on-pages-in-secondary-languages/#how-to-convert-a-translation-into-a-duplicate) and at the screenshot I'm attaching.

This relationship can be disabled by going to the translation WordPress edit page and select the "translate independently" button.

This way, whenever you make edits to the main language (the default language), there will be no changes made to the translation.

I hope that you will find this information helpful.

Thank you for the reply! Can you please tell me where I can find the "translate independently" button?

Hi there.

That button should be found in the translated version of the page when you are editing it in the backend of the site with the WordPress editor.

Practically, go to the WordPress backend > go to pages > switch the language at the top of the top bar to the language in which you have that translated content > find the page and hover over it > click "edit" (also click that you want to continue to access it in case a pop up shows after that).

Please let me know how things go.

It is a post, not a page. I tried going to posts but the post I am working on the translation of is not yet published so it is not in the list. The other posts that I have translated earlier do not have a feature like the one you describe. When I have switched the language to Engish (the translation) there is the option of "editing the Danish translation" which is the original...

Hi there.

1. Please let me know the exact name of this page and the default language it was created into from the beginning

2. I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Our Debugging Procedures

I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.

Privacy and Security Policy

We have strict policies regarding privacy and access to your information. Please see:
https://wpml.org/purchase/support-policy/privacy-and-security-when-providing-debug-information-for-support/

**IMPORTANT**

- Please make a backup of the site files and database before providing us access.

- If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box.

The private box looks like this: hidden link

I will be waiting for your response.

Kind regards,
Mihai Apetrei
