Background of the issue:
I am currently translating my website's categories using WPML's taxonomy translation feature. I was advised to do this by support. The site I need help with is hidden link.
Symptoms:
The categories are being created as new categories instead of translating the existing ones. The image does not appear, and the parent-child link between categories is missing. Also, when I go to the other language and try to move between my translated pages, it switches back to the native language until I go back to the filter and choose the other language.

Why are the categories being created as new instead of translating the existing ones?

2) Could you please go to WPML > Support > Troubleshooting and run all the options inside the "clean up" section of that page? (after a backup, preferably).
Then try to translate a taxonomy again via WPML > Taxonomy Translation or just by adding it to a post and then translating the post and see if it worked this time.
