This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client was experiencing issues with WPML where switching languages did not change the page content or resulted in an error message. This was suspected to be due to incorrect domain setup for multilingual sites. Solution: We recommended checking the domain configuration against our documentation on how to use WPML with different domains per language. Since we cannot access hosting panels, we suggested contacting hosting support or hiring a developer. For further debugging, we requested temporary access to the site's backend and FTP. We also emphasized the importance of backing up the site before providing access and referred to our privacy and security policies, which can be found at Privacy and Security Policy.
If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we recommend opening a new support ticket. Please check related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verify the version of the permanent fix, and confirm that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. For further assistance, you can contact us directly at WPML support forum.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Background of the issue:
I am trying to connect two of the six planned domains for my site hidden link using WPML. Our IT team set up the domains following your manual, and the websites are translated.
Symptoms:
When I try to switch languages using the language switcher to EU – English, the page content doesn’t change. When switching to SK, I receive an error message.
Questions:
Could you please take a look to check whether everything is configured correctly on our side?
Unfortunately, we are limited in our ability to assist with this option since we cannot access customers' hosting panels or site domain admin panels. However, we have done our best to explain everything in our documentation.
I recommend contacting your hosting support or hiring a developer (or a WPML contractor - https://wpml.org/contractors) if you encounter any difficulties.
It seems there may be an issue with how the domains are set up. One of the domains is leading to a forbidden error, which is usually related to server configuration. Additionally, the other language version does not redirect to a different domain but remains on the same domain.
If you’d like, I can take a look at the backend, but it might not provide any insight into why this is happening.
I'm more than happy to take a closer look at this.
I would like to kindly request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site in order to examine the issue thoroughly. The necessary fields can be found below the comment area. When you log in to leave your next reply, please be assured that the information you enter is private and will only be visible to you and me.
Our Debugging Procedures
I will thoroughly review various settings in the backend to determine if the issue can be resolved. While I will not make changes that affect the live site, it is still advisable to back up the site before granting us access. Should further debugging be necessary, I will create a duplicate and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid any impact on the live site.
- Before granting us access, please ensure that the site files and database are backed up.
If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields, please refrain from posting your website details, as they will be made public. Kindly request I enable the private box if you do not see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. You can find the private box by following this link: hidden link
