Background of the issue:
I am trying to automatically translate strings on my site hidden link using WPML. I am following the documentation provided by WPML for string translation.
Symptoms:
The 'translate' button does not appear on the page as expected. Instead, I only see the 'add selected strings to the basket' option.
Questions:
Is there a setting or something I need to change to allow the 'translate' button to appear?
Why is the 'translate' button missing when trying to automatically translate strings?
While one of my teammates takes care of your ticket, I will provide you with the first debugging steps.
Please update your WPML plugin and add-ons to the latest version, 4.6.14, to benefit from the latest bug fixes and improvements. This may not necessarily resolve your problem; however, we need to work on the newest code available to troubleshoot the issue best.
You can check the latest released versions under "My Account -> Downloads" on this site. Instructions to update can be found here: http://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/
If you do not see the updates, you might need to click the Check for updates button in the Plugins → Add New Plugin → Commercial tab.
Please remember to backup your database before you proceed.
Let us know if the issue persists after an update. What settings do you have in WPML → Settings under Translation Mode and Automatic translation?
I have "Translate What You Choose" and still have the issue. Please advise. Note, I do NOT want to change to "Translate Everything Automatically" as I don't want to translate everything, just the string translations. But I need the string translations to be done automatically, not manually.
I hope you're doing well! I've taken over this ticket and will do my best to assist you.
Since the Translation mode is set to "Translate what you choose" and translators are added to your site, you'll first need to add the selected strings to the translation basket. This step is required even if you plan to translate them automatically.
Here’s how to proceed:
1. Add Strings to Basket: Select the desired strings and add them to the basket.
2. Assign Translator: Navigate to "WPML > Translation Management > Translation Basket", assign yourself or another translator for the strings, and click "Send all items for translation."
3. "Access Translation Jobs:" If you’ve assigned the job to yourself, go to "WPML > Translations", where you’ll see the string translation job. Click the "Translate" button to begin translating the strings.
Since you want to automatically translate the strings:
- Once the Translation Editor opens, you'll see a "Translate Automatically" button at the top (if you have enough credits). Click on this to translate the strings automatically.
Please note that, apart from the method above, right now, there isn’t a quicker way to translate strings automatically in multiple languages. Even with automatic translation enabled, you will still need to manually send the strings for translation, open the editor, and translate them from there.
I hope you can understand. Please try and feel free to let me know if you have any other questions or need clarification. I'll be happy to help.
Best regards,
Prosenjit
