[Resolved] Can't translate properly since WPML change in applying markers
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: You are experiencing issues with translating content using the WPML translation editor, specifically with applying markers and links. Each line translation requires exiting and re-entering the editor, and sometimes clicking on a marker does nothing. Solution: We have released a hotfix and an update for our Advanced Translation Editor. We recommend you try translating your content again to see if the issue is resolved. If you're still facing difficulties, it might be due to the solution being outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum for further assistance.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate content on my site hidden link using the WPML translation editor. Recently, the way to apply markers and links has changed, affecting my translation process.
Symptoms:
I can't properly translate a page or post. I have to translate one line, save it to memory, exit the WPML translation editor, and repeat the process for each line. Applying markers or links is also problematic; sometimes clicking on a marker does nothing.
Questions:
Why has the process for applying markers and links changed in the WPML translation editor?
How can I resolve the issue of having to exit and re-enter the WPML translation editor for each line translation?
Is there a way to make applying markers or links more straightforward in the WPML translation editor?
I also just found out that if I edit the page in its source language... I lose all the lines I had translated before in the ATE and need to start over. So these are all new issue the have come up over the past week.
Thanks for your patience. I've checked your translation id here hidden link and I'm able to replicate this issue. Please allow me to escalate this to our 2nd Tier Support for further assistance.
Thanks for your patience. Could you please retest again? Our Advanced Translation Editor Developers released an hotfix earlier and it seems to work fine now when I tried to translate the page hidden link
Should I have to update WPML at my end? If so I don't see that option. But when I tried to translate the same page, the same issue came up. Sometimes I can update 1 line, sometimes 2 lines, but never more, before it stops working.
I also tried creating a completely new page. I tested translating it when it was still a draft, and then when it was published. In both cases, the same issue came up.
Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the confusion. The hotfix is applied directly to the Advanced Translation Editor and not the WPML plugin. The changes will be applied directly without needing to apply any changes on your end.
Ok, thanks. I've been testing it to see if the problem is 100% fixed. In Firefox, everything works well. In Chrome, I still have the same issue. I did close the browser, empty the browser cache and try an incognito window and the issue remained.
Despite this, could it still be a caching issue? Have you tested it in Chrome at your end? Thank you.
Thanks for your reply. It's working fine here for me on Chrome. Have you tested it on another computer? I suspect the issue is isolated to your end for some reason.
I tried it on another computer (at home) and my supervisor tried it at the office on his computer and the issue still seems to be there in all cases in Chrome.
I tried purging the site cache in WordPress, directly on the server (Cloudways), as well as purging cache at Cloudflare. I also restarted the server. The problem remains in Chrome. Sometimes I can translate 2 lines, but usually on the third or fourth, the problem reappears.
Also, in both Chrome and Firefox, I can't always access the markers to apply them.
I've checked again and I still cannot replicate this. Could you record a new screen recording showing the issue so that I could escalate this further? Please make sure to capture the entire browser window, especially the URL.
If you urgently need to translate the page, you can temporarily switch to the old translation editor by clicking on the gear icon on the top right corner of the page as shown in the attached screenshot, and enable the "Use the previous version of the Advanced Translation Editor" option.
