Background of the issue:
I want to add a German translation to my English pages on my WordPress site. I started with English versions, and my account language was initially German. I installed WPML, but I encountered an issue with language folders.
Symptoms:
English pages are placed in the German folder by default, causing German versions to show English pages and vice versa.
Questions:
How can I move English pages out of the German folder?
How do I correctly set up WPML to display the correct language versions?
Thank you for contacting WPML Support. Apologies for the delay due to an unusually high workload. Your ticket has now been assigned to me, and I’ll ensure a quicker response time moving forward.
It seems your site’s content is originally in English, but the default language in WPML was set to German. If your site doesn’t have any translated content yet, you can reset WPML and set it up again, selecting the correct default content language (English).
=== Please backup your database and website ===
- To reset WPML:
1. Go to WPML >> Support > Troubleshooting (link is at the bottom of the WPML Support page).
2. Click on the Reset and deactivate WPML button(screenshot attached)
- After resetting:
1. Reactivate WPML plugins and reconfigure the setup.
2. Set English as the default language and German as the secondary language.
This should resolve the issue with language folders.
