This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem:
After upgrading WPML, users at the client's site are unable to manually translate posts due to receiving an error message 'You can only edit translations assigned to you.' Additionally, the buttons to edit a translated post are disabled.
Solution:
We recommend checking the settings related to translation management in WPML. Specifically, ensure that the translation management system is configured to allow all users to translate without restrictions. This involves adjusting the permissions under WPML's Translation Management settings to enable manual translation by all users without assigning specific jobs or language pairs. For detailed guidance on configuring these settings, please refer to our forum post: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/you-can-only-edit-translations-assigned-to-you-2/
If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If issues persist, please open a new support ticket for personalized assistance.
