We have certain product pages where we make a duplicate page to translate into a different language.
With this we make the page duplicate independent to the parent page so that we have that translated accordingly. While this is still connected to the parent page the problem occurs that we cannot change certain settings (Product categories, Product tags & Image gallery). This can only be changed when we disconnect the page from the parent page. When we do this and connect the pages again the changes revert to the parent pages settings for product categories, product tags & Image gallery.
How can we connect the pages without the settings changing?
Is there any documentation that you are following?
I have not found any related documentation
Is there a similar example that we can see?
I have setup a staging website and with that made an account for you to test on.
Thank you for contacting WPML support. While you are waiting for one of my colleagues to take this ticket and work on it, let me provide you with the first debugging steps or if I can help with the issue quickly.
I understand that you translate the WooCommerce products following these steps:
1. Duplicate the product to the other languages.
2. Edit the duplicated product and hit the "Translate Independently" button.
3. Try changing the product categories, tags, and image gallery.
The issue occurs with the 3rd step, where the changes revert when you save the product.
Did I get that right?
If that's correct, then this is the expected behavior. If you want to have different categories and tags for the translated products, please disable this option: WPML → Settings → Copy taxonomy to translations.
If you want to have different product images (featured and gallery), please disable these options in the product edit screen:
Duplicate featured image from original and Duplicate uploaded media from original.
Hope that helps 🙂
