This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is unable to use the copy and paste function in the edit section of the automatic translation in WPML and is also missing the DeepL feature to click on a word for alternative suggestions. Solution: If you're experiencing issues with copying and pasting text in the WPML translation editor, we recommend enabling the 'I prefer bigger segments' option in the Translation Editor's settings. You can find this by clicking the gear icon in the top-right corner of the editor. However, please note that you cannot copy and paste entire documents at once; you must paste content sentence by sentence or paragraph by paragraph. Regarding the lack of a feature similar to DeepL's alternative word suggestions, we suggest using the Glossary feature in WPML, where you can define and use alternate words during translation.
If this solution does not fully address your issue or seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If further assistance is needed, please do not hesitate to open a new support ticket.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Background of the issue:
I recently purchased the WPML plugin and started editing some texts. I need to copy and paste text inside the edit section of the automatic translation. This is important for me because I have quotes that I would otherwise have to transcribe word for word.
Symptoms:
I can't use the copy and paste function in the edit section of the automatic translation. Additionally, I am frustrated that DeepL's feature to click on a word and get alternative suggestions is not present.
Questions:
Is it possible to copy and paste text inside the edit section of the automatic translation?
Why is the DeepL feature to click on a word and get alternative suggestions not available?
Thank you for contacting the support. Meanwhile this ticket is attended by one of my colleagues, can you please explain how you're expecting to copy/paste the translations?
Generally, when you're in the translation editor, you see content distributed in sentences. Large paragraphs are broken into smaller ones. However, with such sentences you can find a link icon to group these.
You can also turn on "I prefer bigger segments" in Translation Editor's settings. Look for a gear icon in top-right corner, click it to open the settings and turn on the said option.
However, please note that, you can not copy/paste an entire document as translation in the translation editor. You'll have to paste sentence by sentence or paragraph by paragraph, comparing to what you see on the left side of the translation editor and adding your input to the right side input boxes. Thus matching the original with its corresponding translation.
Regarding DeepL providing alternate words, can you please explain a little more about it? WPML however offers Glossary feature, where you can define alternate or proper alternates to your words and these can be used when updating translations.
Please let us know and we'll try our best to help you further on the matter.
My way to copy and paste is by highlighting the section and using the right mouse button to paste the desired content. This option does not work inside the admin panel. While waiting for your reply, a friend told me to use keyboard shortcuts, and that worked.
I need this option because in some of the articles, I use quotes that I need to cite correctly. And if I have to transcribe them word for word, it's extremely labour-intensive work.
In this respect, your suggestion to open larger sections for translation was very helpful; I did not know about this option. The same applies to the Glossary feature.
As far as the DeepL is concerned, I think things are clear there. On the DeepL site, there is an option to click on a word and choose an alternative more appropriate. In the admin panel, there is no such thing.
I don't think I have any more questions at this point. Thanks again for your reply.
