I’m currently translating a website from English to Dutch, and see a lot of css related issues, especially on templates like the header and footer. See the pictures of the footer. I translated the template where I was careful to only translate the actual text.
1. Picture of front end: bottom the original English version, top the translated Dutch version
2. Picture of source: left the Dutch version, right original English, where you can see that a piece of css is missing.
3. Picture of the header, where in the Dutch version (top) a piece of the global menu is missing
The issue is pretty random: most of the css is OK, but some is off because there are changes in the HTML-structure and some css is simply gone.
It seems random, but possibly we are overlooking something.
It would be helpful if you can help me out with some more information related to:
1- How are you creating the header for example and how are you translating it
2- Does this issue happen randomly on the same page or just randomly in different pages
I also noticed from the picture of source you sent that on the English version there is a CSS file created (post-161.min.css), do you know how this file is being created (is there any custom CSS code being applied somewhere)?
It would appreciate if you can you send me 1/2 links were the issue happens so I can check.
Enclosed a picture with some screenshots and explanation of the header. I hope is isn’t to complicated.
As you can see, the header has 2 menu’s. The problem occurs with the top-menu, which contains a classic WP menu. The main menu is hand build and works fine.
Because it’s a header, the problem occurs on all pages. The same applies to the footer.
The website I’m translating isn’t on a live website, so I'm not sure if i can give you access.
I'll have a look at that css-file, but the source code shows that it might be also html-related. See also the first screen I send you of the footer.
To investigate further if this issue might be related to any compatibility problem with any plugin you are using,
1) Would it be possible to check if the issue happens in a more minimal setup, meaning:
- keep the theme you have active
- enable only WPML plugins
- disable all the other plugins
2) Also, please is there any possibility you can you provide a temporary access on the frontend of the website so I can check as well.
Can you please guide me how can I access the Dutch version of the website?
I tried going to hidden link but it keeps redirecting me on homepage of the English version.
I am able to see the Dutch flag icon only if I enter a random string at the end of the website URL, like: hidden link , but once I click it, I am redirected again to the homepage in English.
I disabled all plugins except (obviously) the WPML ones, and this is what I got. I took a screenshot of the header and footer, where you see that most of the css is gone (because I use ACSS) but the effect on the menu for example is the same. I then re-activated only ACSS, and that fixes the global menu for the most part.
But compare that to the screens I sent you, and the effect is till the same. Which suggests that it is not a plugin incompatibility.
Hope this helps.
(Because I feared WP Total Cache could interfere – we don't have the pro version – I disabled it some time ago, without any effect.)
Thank you for the update and detailed information.
To troubleshoot further I set up a sandbox site where I would require you to try and recreate the issue:
1) You can log in on the sandbox site using the one-click-login link: hidden link
In the sandbox the WPML plugins are already activated, please configure them as on your website, also please upload only the necessary theme/plugins needed to reproduce the issue.
2) Also, could you tell me how to reproduce the issue step by step?
Let me know if you need any help with the sandbox.
Looking forward to your reply,
Marsel
