Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate custom link labels in a mega menu on my WordPress site using the WPML plugin. I have a theme called Uncode and have set up a mega menu with custom links that serve as category labels. I have used string translation and WP Menu sync as per the tutorial. The issue can be seen on the page: hidden link

Guys, I beg you to finally reply my ticket.
I have contact you at least two or three weeks ago when I launched my site!
I have a theme called uncode, there I have set up a mega menu. Now in this mega menu i have custom links that don't really tako you to anywhere, they are really there just to signify a category (so there is only a label). Those two custom links are called "Starinski predmeti" and "ostalo" in slovenian language. And no matter what I do they don't translate into english in english page. I have already used string translation and WP Menu sync all according to your tutorial. I doens't work. And I very angry, that you guys are taking a very long time to even reply. This is not my first ticket. If I pay 100€ for your plugin I expect to get help In a normal amount of time. I needed your help when the page was lauched which was 3 weeks ago.

In the Menu sync list my two string that I am trying to change are written twice in the same row. One is colored in the dark green and on is colored in blue. According to your legend under the list that means "item has changed position" and "Menu option will be updated" but the updates don't happen. I have cleared cache etc. ž

I understand you guys are also busy with other tickets but please understand that I need to get this sorted out as my client also expected things to already be finished when the site was published. Now it's way past that time, and we need to have this fixed as soon as possible.

Thank you

Symptoms:
The custom link labels 'Starinski predmeti' and 'Ostalo' do not translate into 'Antiques' and 'Miscellaneous' on the English page. In the Menu sync list, the strings appear twice in the same row, colored dark green and blue, indicating 'item has changed position' and 'Menu option will be updated', but the updates do not occur.

Questions:
Why are the custom link labels not translating despite using string translation and WP Menu sync?
What do the colors dark green and blue signify in the Menu sync list, and why are the updates not happening?

Thank you for reaching out to WPML support. I apologize for the delays in addressing your ticket. I’ll make sure to bring this matter to the attention of our management.

In the meantime, while one of my colleagues reviews your ticket, let me suggest a few potential solutions that might help resolve the issue.

It’s possible that some plugins are conflicting with WPML, causing problems with menu synchronization or string translations. Have you tried temporarily deactivating all plugins except WPML? If so, could you let us know the results? Please backup before you do this.

If the problem persists, you can try using the "Fully Custom – Create the Menu Translations By Yourself" option, as explained in this guide: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-menus/ . I hope it helps.

Guys, thank you for your assisantance.

The only way I could get this working was with the "Fully Custom - Create the Menu Translations By Yourself" option.

I guess when it comes to custom links, menu syncronization just doesn't work. The theme that I am using is Uncode, if it means anything.

Thank you again.
This problem seems to be resolved.

Best regards,
Tomaž
