Sorry, this is a continuation of this ticket that got auto-closed:
""auto_adjust_ids" causing post category "News" to be changed to "Nouvelles""
You should still have access to the staging site login from that ticket.
A key detail that wasn't included last time is that our client isn't using the WPML editor; they're using Elementor and then making changes.
Here are their recommended steps to recreating the issue:
The problem is easy to reproduce. They need to make a small edit in a French post like this one hidden link using Elementor. Then save it and open the English version to edit. The categories that were checked in English will no longer will be checked. I reproduced this a number of times in my last set of revisions. If you do this test, let me know so that I can put the categories back.
Are the categories of translated pages managed by WPML or WordPress?
On the News category, the category Nouvelles is not even available in an English post. This seems to be a WPML issue. It is only available to check in a French post.
Either way, it is doubtful that it is an Elementor problem because I do not choose categories in Elementor. The categories are chosen in WordPress before I do the translation. This is what I know.
The English post is assigned the category of News. It shows up as News if there is no French translation done.
I add the translation for French and choose Nouvelles as the category.
I publish or schedule the posts in both languages.
The English post changes to the category Nouvelles. It is happening with =in the system. It is not something that I do.
Here is a potential work around that I want your opinion on: What if we start a fresh News category on OMFCA called Latest News (matches the category on OMF)? We can add a like French category called dernières nouvelles. Perhaps with a different category things would go back to working. I can add the categories to the aggregation page.
If possible, please re share the access details to the staging site with me as they were automatically removed upon the closing of the ticket we were working on.
Once I have access again I will test the above and provide feedback
