This may be a compatibility issue. Please try the following steps after a full site backup{mandatory} and make sure you can access the site backend now.
1) Log in to the site root folder via FTP
2) Go to *wp-content/plugins* directory
3) Rename the *wpml-string-translation* folder to *wpml-string-translation-1*
4) Log in to the site dashboard. The above steps will help you to deactivate the WPML String Translation plugin and you will be able to access the backend.
