We have a multilingual website, and it has a lot of posts (around 10K+) in seven languages. Whenever a post is translated from English to any other language, the featured images are also copied or duplicated, and that's the default behavior. But nowadays, our post is translated without the featured images not getting copied or duplicated. So most of the translated posts don't have a featured image now. Currently, we are manually selecting the featured image again, but the issue still persists. The user has a custom author role to translate the English posts into Indonesian.

I expected to see: Featured image in every post
Instead, I got: No featured image in translated posts
Normally, the featured image should be copied or duplicated to the translated posts, but in our case, it is not working correctly. How can we fix this issue?

Hi there,
Thanks for your contact!
As a quick test, could you please try to update our plugins by going to the Plugins -> Add New -> Commercial tab? We have just released new versions for WPML. Just make sure to have a backup before doing it.
Also, please edit your affected page and make sure those options are marked there: hidden link. If they're not, just mark them, make a small change on the original language content (like an extra space/character), and update the translation.
Another attempt you can try is to go to WPML -> Settings -> Media Translation and run the MT wizard setup again. Just select the same options I mentioned above, and click on the 'start' button: hidden link
Please give these suggestions a try and let us know how they go. Thank you.
We updated WPML and its related plugins to the latest versions, and now all the plugins are up to date, but still, we are facing the same issue here. Our featured images are not fetched or copied into the translated posts. If we take the primary post and recheck the Media attachments options and update the post, the images will show in the translated posts, but on the initial translation, they are not showing. We need to solve this issue ASAP. Every day we post 30–60 posts, and it is very hard to re-edit every post to show the featured image properly on translated posts.
The checked almost all the latest posts regarding the Media attachments options and all the posts have the options marked and still not working.
Regarding the last option that you suggested, we have more than 11k+ posts and 12k+ featured images. Will that option work smoothly for this many images, or will it cause any issues? We never want our website down for this reason, and we need to fix this issue without affecting any other issues with the website.

Hi there,
Thanks for your reply.
The option I suggested previously shouldn't cause issues, but if you're unsure, please consider trying it first in a staging test or local version.
If you still face the problem, I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.
Our Debugging Procedures
I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.
- Please make a backup of site files and database before providing us access.
- If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box. The private box looks like this: hidden link
Please, let me know if you need any additional details. Have a nice day.
