Background of the issue:
I am trying to use the theme Rey to set up a mega menu in the menu section. Previously, I could select a global section as a source for this menu, and it worked well. However, after an update, I can only find the global sections for English, which is the default language, but not for any other secondary language.

Symptoms:
After an update, the global sections for secondary languages are not found, only the English sections are available.

Questions:
Why are the global sections for secondary languages not appearing after the update?
How can I restore the global sections for secondary languages in the mega menu?

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. Before passing this thread to my colleague, I would like to share some suggestions and possible solutions for the issues you mentioned.

The latest version of WPML is 4.7.2 series. You may have to visit Plugins>>Add New>>Commercial tab and click on the *Check for updates* button to get the WPML automatic upgrade links of the latest version. This step will help us refresh the installer caches.

This may be a compatibility issue. Please check you can translate it using WPML String Translation.

Hello,
I apologize for the delay in responding. I will take care of this ticket; the reply time will be shorter now.

The Rey theme is not in our compatibility list, however, it doesn't necessarily imply that it is not compatible, just that our team has not tested yet. On the other hand, the author does claim to be compatible:

From your description, it seems that after the recent update, the theme’s “Global Sections” (the custom post type used by Rey) are no longer registered or recognized by WPML for the secondary languages. This is why you only see the English entries.

Why are the global sections for secondary languages not appearing?
Most often, this happens because the custom post type for “Global Sections” is not configured as “Translatable” or has lost its translation settings during an update. WPML needs to know which post types should be translatable. If “Global Sections” are set as “Not Translatable” or the translation status was reset, they will only show in the default language (English).

How to restore the global sections for secondary languages in the mega menu:
1. Check the Post Type Translation Settings
• Go to WPML > Settings > Post Type Translation.
• Locate the “Global Sections” (or similarly named) custom post type.
• Make sure it is set to Translatable.
2. Translate or Duplicate the Global Sections
• Once “Global Sections” are translatable, go to WPML > Translation Management or open each section in the default language and use the Language Switcher to create or update its translation in the secondary languages.
• Make sure each global section has a completed translation status so it appears in the mega menu for that language.
3. Re-Assign Sections in the Mega Menu
• Navigate to Appearance > Menus and switch the language in the top admin bar to your secondary language.
• Edit the mega menu settings and re-assign the translated “Global Section” to that menu if needed.

By making “Global Sections” translatable and ensuring each one has a proper translation, they should appear in the secondary-language mega menus again.

If this does not help, I suggest checking with the theme support as they implemented the compatibility with WPML.

Best Regards,
Otto

Hello,

Sure, I can take a look. But as I mention the author does claim to be compatible with WPML so we may need to contact him.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue.
It would be better to a testing site where the issue is replicated.

The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.
Maybe I'll need to replicate your site locally. For this, I'll need to temporarily install a plugin called “Duplicator” or "All in One WP Migration" on your site.
This will allow me to create a copy of your site and your content.
Once the problem is resolved I will delete the local site.

**IMPORTANT**
- Please make a backup of site files and database before providing us access.
- If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields this means your post & website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields.

Best Regards,
Otto

Hello,

Thanks.

I created a copy of your site and installed it locally.

Without doing anything else, it started to work. Check the screenshot attached.

So, I suspect it may be a caching issue.

I suggest clearing all the caches, from plugins and also from the server, and trying again.

Also, try the following:
**IMPORTANT:** Please try this in a staging environment or at least with a backup of your site files and database before continuing.
Disable all plugins except WPML and Rey related.
Is the issue resolved with these settings? If so, please reactivate one by one to see which conflicts.

Best Regards,
Otto

Hi, I have tried all this now, unfortunately without success. However, I must ask if you checked this in the secondary languages, not the default one (English). As I wrote before, this issue only exists when I switch to the other languages in the menu. The sources works perfectly well for the default language, but only that. I ask this because in your screenshot it looks like you are on the default one.

Its just like on the secondary languages, the templates for the translated sections isnt published, yet they are.

Please disregard, I have finally found the issue.
