Hi there

I am trying to translate a gravity form.
Some of the fields have placeholder values.

I try to translate them using the ATE (see screenshot), but the placeholders stay in the default language (EN) when viewing the translated page and form.
The link of the page is: hidden link

What could be the problem?

Hi Olivier,
Thanks for contacting WPML support.

Could you please check if you can translate those texts via String Translation?

Please try the following steps:

1. Go to WPML > Theme and plugins localization.
2. Select Gravity Forms and click the "Scan selected plugins for strings" button.
3. Go to WPML > String Translation, and search for strings in the "gravityforms" domain.

Please check here for more details: https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/gravity-forms-multilingual/#translating-sub-labels

Let me know please if that helps.

Kind regards,
Mohamed

Hi Mohamad

Thanks for your reply.
However, I try to avoid using string translations.
The server management partner for this website has disabled writing to the folder wp-content/languages/wpml on the production server.
Therefore I want content translations to be saved in the database, thus avoiding to need to write to translation files.
I thought this was possible with the ATE. Shouldn't that work?

Hi,

As mentioned in our docs, some texts need to be translated with String Translation. If this is the case, I'm afraid that it won't be possible to translate them with ATE.

Could you please try to replicate the issue on one of our testing servers so we can confirm this?

I have created this clean sandbox setup on our servers here:
hidden link (one-click login)

I would need you to please set up the WPML plugins + Gravity Forms as you have them on your site (they are already installed) and try to recreate the issue.

Please don't install anything else like plugins that are not necessary, on a clean sandbox we try to use just the WPML plugins and the plugin/theme that's part of the issue.

Please let me know how that goes and what you are able to find.
