Hi,

Until now we've used wpml for manual translations. From now, we would like to switch to automatic translations of some languages. So our list would be:

EN - main site language
NL - manually translated to Dutch
FR - automatically translated with credits
PT - automatically translated with credits
DE - automatically translated with credits

How can we configure WPML correctly to be able to translate NL manually and the rest automatically with credit usage?

Hi Erwin,

Thank you for contacting WPML support, I'd be happy to help you with this issue.

You can go to WPML > Languages > Site Languages > Edit language > Language Mapping: Select "Don't map this language" for the Dutch language. Then automatic translation feature does not work with this language.

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hi Long Nguyen,

Thank you for your reply. That's very clear then. Is WPML capable of automatically creating translated pages if we add an automatically translated language? Or do we have to add these pages manually so they can be translated?

Thanks again.

Hi,

Yes, WPML can translate all pages on your site into a new language with automatic translation without sending them to translation manually.
Refer documentation https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Hi,
To translate pages in Cornerstone (f.i. from English to French), do we first have to create the French page in Cornerstone? Or does WPML do this by itself when you translate automatically?

Thanks

Hi,

To translate pages in Cornerstone (f.i. from English to French), do we first have to create the French page in Cornerstone?

No, WPML will translate the page automatically. If you want to have a different layout/design per language, then you need to create the translation in the French language with Cornerstone manually. Please read more in the documentation https://wpml.org/documentation/theme-compatibility/xtheme/#creating-different-designs-per-language

Look forward to your reply.
Thanks

Thanks, I think I know how it works no.

I do have another questiong. How can I prevent WPML from translating certain words that should not be translated? Can I specify these somewhere?

Thank you

Hi,

You can use the Glossary feature to apply a term across languages when using automatic translation. Please read more about this feature in the documentation https://wpml.org/documentation/translating-your-contents/advanced-translation-editor/how-to-create-and-manage-glossary-entries/

We can handle one issue per ticket only so if you see the main issue of this ticket with translating manually a language is resolved, please mark it as Resolved. Feel free to create another ticket if you have more questions.

Thanks.
