This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client has discovered that the table

icl_string_pages

still exists in their database with 18M rows, even though they are using the latest version of WPML, which should not use this table.
Solution:
If you're experiencing this issue, we recommend that you safely remove the

icl_string_pages

table from your database as it is no longer in use. However, it is crucial to take a full site backup before proceeding with the deletion. Additionally, you can optimize database tables related to string translation through WPML>>Support>>Troubleshooting, specifically using the 'Cleanup and optimize string tables' action. For more details, please refer to our documentation on WPML Troubleshooting Options.

Please note that this solution might be irrelevant if it's outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum.

Background of the issue:
I just found out that I have 18M rows in table icl_string_pages. From forum I found that this table is actually not used/needed since version 3.5.1. I'm using newer version than 3.5.1 and as I understand it should have been cleared in version 3.5.1, but I still have the table with 18M rows.

Symptoms:
The table icl_string_pages still exists with 18M rows despite using a newer version than 3.5.1.

Questions:
What should I do with the table icl_string_pages?

It is safe to remove the icl_string_pages table from the database. It is not in use now. But please take a full site backup{mandatory} before deleting it.

Please note, we can also optimize database tables related to string translation like (icl_string_pages) from WPML>>Support>>Troubleshooting (specially the *Cleanup and optimize string tables* action). Refer to the following article for more details.

Hello

I tested it. In one server it worked, in other server it didn't work. Size of table didn't decrease

+----------------------------------+-----------+
| Table | Size (MB) |
+----------------------------------+-----------+
| wp_icl_string_pages | 1656.00 |
