Background of the issue:
I am using the WPML plugin to create multilingual pages on our website. We are facing an issue with our blog pages where we are not publishing blog translations, but users can still access the posts with a language tag for a specific country code. The issue can be seen at: hidden link.

Symptoms:
Country-specific URLs should contain a canonical tag pointing to the original blog post URL, but they are being treated as separate pages. This is causing duplicate content problems and negatively impacting our website's indexing. Instead of the expected canonical URL hidden link, the canonical URL is hidden link.

Questions:
How can I ensure proper canonicalization for our blog posts?
Why are the country-specific URLs being treated as separate pages instead of pointing to the original blog post URL?
