I have increased the memory and it is still giving the error msg when trying to save the settings, but it now looks like the layout corresponds from the English one so this matter is kind of solved then..any idea why it would still flag the error?

Now, this is very odd, but as you can see on my screenshot the error does not occur on my local install.
This might an issue specific to GoDaddy's server, or to their must-use plugins, which are the only difference between my local copy and your live site.
Maybe you could ask the GoDaddy Support to take a look at the server's error.log?
Do have other WordPress sites with WPML running on GoDaddy? If so, do they experience the same issue?
