Background of the issue:
I'm trying to link two pages on my site, Spanish (main language) and English, using WPML. The instructions provided by your site do not work.
Symptoms:
The instructions from the WPML site on how to link already translated pages are not working.
Questions:
Can you help me link the Spanish and English pages?
Thank you for contacting WPML Support. You can link existing Spanish pages with English pages only if they are not linked to any other post/page by following below steps:
1. Open the English language post in edit mode.
2. Disable the WPML Translation Editor and enable the WordPress Editor.
3. Click on the “Connect with translations” link in the Languages meta box.
4. Search for the Spanish page that you want to link and press the OK button.
5. Another dialogue will appear if you want to change the default language of the post, you may uncheck the checkbox and press the Assign button as you can see in the attached screenshots.
I've checked all the steps of the info you provided and it does not work.
It's OK from steps 1 to 3.
On step 4 I only have the option to choose from one page of the site, wich is not the one I need.
I've checked the original (Spanish) page and 'Page language' is blocked in Spanish (find attachment). Is it possible that this page is already linked to another one, so it's not 'eligible' as a translation? Also, it says there's an English translation in progress.
Thanks for the update. It looks like the page might be locked due to a translation job in progress. Please try the following steps to unblock it:
1. Go to the WPML >> Translation Management > Translation Jobs tab and cancel the job by clicking the little trash icon.
2. If that doesn’t help, try this workaround:
- Open the default language page in Edit mode.
- Click the secondary language icon to open it in the default WP editor.
- Add a temporary title and publish the page.
- Then delete the page.
- Also delete it from the trash.
This should unblock the page and allow you to connect it with the correct translation.
